Welcome Mrs. Wagaye
Thank you
Could you briefly describe yourself?
About myself?....about what?
Who is Wagaye ? from where you are?
Ok... I came from Gojam to Addis Ababa. It was just before 18...uhh 19 years ago.
Ok, that is closely 1986. Where do you live now?
I live in Gulele.
when did you come to know Ms. Genet?
I came to Know Genet due to my sons. I was in a great trouble and I was living in a bad
condition. I had to reside in the church for a while. I have two sons. The elder one was a student of the New life Community
School (NLCS). The younger is a grade four student at the NLCS.
How could this happen?
while I was going to work, one of my sons get into the NLCS compound and resisted not
to go out.
Does it mean he was interested to attend classes?
Yes. The guards and other people asked him to leave but he was unwilling. Later he was
allowed to attend that day lessons. The following day his elder brother accompanied him. Genet
herself came and she was told that these boys were demanding food and education. She immediately
contacted me and asked me if I had any supporting evidence that proved to her that I was unable
send my kids to school. I told her that I didn't have any paper from any governmental
office; even an ID as I was a new comer from a rural areas of the country.
Based on this, how do you describe New Life community?
For me the New Life community is just like a creator...would that be an exaggeration?
It might be said so... but for me it is really that. I was a woman in a dark, frustrating
moment and I had no food, clothe and I was in a difficult circumstances- Imagine unable
to send children whose father was a teacher himself, was a worrying reality...many troubles.
Now that is over and how nice it is to see my son receiving his Bachelor degree from
one of the nation's Universities. I can now look at the eyes of others. I was unable by
those days. I was living in horror and I did hate humans. Now that is over and I am living
as a new person. So New Life gave a real new life. That is what I think about the New life
Community.
hence, could it be possible to say that the New Life community has a positive impact on
your life?
very much, very much, and very much. I was not good in many ways. I myself didn't go
to school in my life time. It was hard to meet people and many more. Thanks to Genet,
she really helped me improve my communication skills, she showed me how to demand my rights,
ID from Kebele and everything...now, I even got a house as she supported me in my effort
to have one. So you can see the role this lady has in my life. She is everything for
me and you can imagine.
ok, can we talk about your first son?
yeah, he is now 21.
had it not been for the support of the New Life Community Organization, what do you think
the life of your son could have been like?
Oh really, it is hard to think...he might have died even, what could I fed him? It is
really difficult to imagine...
how could you describe W/o Genet?
Oh...she is really beyond special. She is the mother of my sons, she is my mother...God
really knows that. I feel she is part of my whole life. I can feel her around me...she
is always with me. I am indebted to her in many ways that words can't express.
