The first step for creating an external link tracker is to capture the click events that
are happening on all the links on your site. To do this we'll create a new tag. In this
new tag, we'll be constraining the host to searchsignals.com. So we'll label the tag
Link Click Listener host specific. For the tag type, select. Link Click Listener under
the Event Listener sub-menu. Next we'll create a new rule to constrain the listener to only
searchsignals.com that way we won't accidentally capture link click events in development.
We'll name the rule, All Pages host specific. Then for our one condition we'll select url
hostname from the predefined macros. Then we'll match the hostname with the regular
expression that is case insensitive. Finally setting the value to searchsignals.com$ This
particular regular expression will match any hostname that ends in searchsignals.com which
means the link click listener will also fire on any searchsignals subdomain. Of course,
instead of searchsignals.com you'd insert your own domain name. After we click save
a couple of times, that'll do it for the link click listener tag.
