Hi guys! Iím Faith, and I'm the Health and Wellness Blogger at The Mesothelioma Center.
I'm here today to share a recipe with you guys. This is perfect for days when you donít
feel like eating a lot or days that you just don't really have a lot of energy to cook.
This is our immunity booster smoothie and all of the ingredients that you see here cost
about $7, but you're gonna have some leftovers to make two or three more servings throughout
the rest of the week. So why don't we go ahead and get started?
Our first ingredient is Greek yogurt. This is what gives you the majority of the protein
in your smoothie. You definitely want to go with Greek yogurt when you're shopping, instead
of regular yogurt because it has about twice the protein. This right here has 12 grams.
It's also gonna make your smoothie super creamy. So go ahead and just dump the entire container
in and let's move right along. You're also gonna get some more protein from
your milk. Now when you're shopping you can buy 2%, fat-free; whatever works for how many
calories you need to eat in a day. Now if you don't want to do diary or if you need
to avoid it for medical reasons, you can also go with soy milk or almond milk. Both of those
work just fine too. If you want you smoothie thicker, like a milkshake,
you don't need as much milk. But today we're gonna go with about half a cup. You can eyeball
it or you can measure itówhatever you're comfortable with.
Now this smoothie is also gonna give you three servings of fruits and vegetables. Our first
one is the banana. These are really high in potassium and they're also a great source
of carbohydrates for energy. You're body needs lots of energy to keep up with recovery so
be sure get plenty of healthy carbohydrates throughout your day.
Your second fruit and vegetable serving is spinach. And I promise it's not as crazy as
it sounds. It will turn your smoothie a little green, but you won't be able to taste it at
all. It gives you about 160% of your daily requirement for vitamin A, plus plenty of
iron and other anti-oxidants. Go ahead and just use about two handfuls of raw spinach.
Now our last serving of fruits and vegetables is blueberries. You can use whatever blueberries
you can find on your supermarket shelves. Raspberries, blackberriesóthey all have lots
of anti-oxidants to fight canceróbut some studies have shown that blueberries have a
higher percentage of anti-oxidants than other berries, so that's what we'll be using today.
Just a handful or two. You don't have to measure anything too precisely.
And follow that up with some ice. That will keep everything smooth and cold. Your blender
is going to determine how long you need to spend blending it because spinach does need
a little extra time to get smooth, otherwise you're going to be left with little leaf chunks.
But about one to two minutes should be plenty. Just go ahead. (Blending). Okay.
Now here's the thing. If your leaves aren't blending quite the way that you hoped that
they will, just add a little more milk over the top of your smoothie and cover it back
up and blend for a few more minutes. (Blending).
There you go. In about five minutes you're got a super healthy breakfast, lunch, or snack,
or even dinner. This one is a great one to take on the go with you to a doctor's office
or any appointments that you may have. But it can also work as a snack around the house.
