Most charges for sales of controlled substances here
in Nevada stem from undercover sting operations or observation
posts.
In terms of undercover sting operations,
metro and other police agencies will often
have undercover officers at night clubs and casinos,
on the street posing as customers, often
as college students from out of town,
who are here in Las Vegas for the weekend looking to party
and buy drugs.
These undercover officers will often
try to arrange a controlled buy, and then
after the sale will move in and other officers
will arrest the seller for sales of narcotics.
In terms of observation posts, if the police
believe that there's a particular location from which
drugs are being sold, they will often
set up a surveillance team.
And this might be in a van.
This might be in a hotel room, an apartment somewhere,
or behind a wall.
But they'll often surveil the scene
and often record the scene and wait
for what appears to be hand-to-hand drug sales
transactions, and then they'll move in
and arrest the buyer and the seller.
So if you are selling drugs here in Las Vegas--
and we certainly don't advise that you do-- but if you are,
you want to be very careful about selling
in public and about selling to people who you don't know,
to strangers who you don't know, because the reality is
that's how most people get busted.
