I'm an Internal Revenue Agent, Computer Audit Specialist.
So, even though I am a CPA, like most of the Revenue Agents,
I have some specialized training in data processing
and working with electronic records.
The job is completely computer-driven.
Some days, you work with taxpayers' records.
Some days, you ask taxpayers for those records.
Some days, you help other people in your group
manipulate those records.
You work with the agents and help them
pull the information that they need out of those records.
That's probably the primary thing that we do.
It's -- all has to do --
it's all driven by electronic records.
In my job, I don't always have all the answers.
Somebody doesn't say, "This is exactly how you have to do it."
Sometimes you have to figure things out.
So if you're that kind of person and you like
to figure things out, the information is out there,
you know, on the Internet, in books, you know, it's out there.
It's not going to be spoon-fed to you.
Sometimes you have to learn it on your own.
But when you've accomplished it,
that just makes you feel all the better.
I was a Tax Manager for a public accounting firm in Waldorf,
and then I came back to the Service.
I worked in Planning and Special Programs,
which is a support function of the IRS,
and then, after that, went back out
into the field as a Revenue Agent.
And in 2001, I was selected
to become a Computer Audit Specialist.
And all Computer Audit Specialists are trained --
we have four months of training.
If you're a college student or you just graduated from college
and you're interested in a career with the IRS,
then I would recommend that you come in
as an Internal Revenue Service Agent and then you --
what happens is, you would go out in the field,
you would do some audits, and as you get
more experienced in that, you can apply
for the Computer Audit Specialist position.
You need to be comfortable and have good computer skills,
but the Service trains you for what you need to know
to do the Computer Audit Specialist job.
When you work with computers, things change all the time,
and some people find change and learning new things frustrating,
but I find it adventurous and fun.
So it's really the job for me.
