SAVINGS AND ECO-RESPONSIBILITY: ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN OUR INFRASTRUCTURES
JAVIER DEL AGUA DIRECTOR OF INFRASTRUCTURES AND BUILDINGS
As with the rest of the company, the infrastructures and Buildings department
has been working towards reducing CO2 emissions for years in two areas where
we can act: energy consumption and paper consumption.
ENERGY CONSUMPTION
With regards to energy consumption, the most important project has been the implementation
of a real time monitoring system of the consumption of our buildings, this allows
us to know at any moment how much we are consuming and where it is being consumed.
And as result of this information we have launched saving initiatives to al our buildings.
For example, in large technical buildings, we have focused on the air conditioning,
highlighting the free cool ing initiatives, which consist of cooling technical rooms by
using external cold ari. Along with this and other initiatives in large
technical buildings, we have managed to make savings of more than two and a half million
kilowatts/hour per year. And we hope to reach a level of savings of 26% in 2015 compared to
the initially estimated consumption for corporate buildings. With regards to corporate buildings
we have focused our initiatives on lighting, air-conditioning and employees, with the
environmental awareness campaigns where, besides the periodic communication to our employees,
this year we have incorporated a new ecobutton: this is a very friendly device which with just one
click you can pu your PC into standby mode. With these savings
initiatives, we have saved 2% annual for two years running
and we aim to reach a level of savings of 16% in 2015 compared to
the initially estimated consumption for corporate buildings.
With regards to stores, the main project has been the implementation of LED
equipment, which allows us to reduce the electrical consumption in our own stores by between 20% and 30%.
PAPER CONSUMPTION
The second savings initiative is paper consumption. This consisted of implementing a real time
monitoring system of the copy volumes per user which has enabled us to launch savings
initiatives with regards the machine and people, achieving an annual reduction of copies of 24%.
In keeping with the ideal of a paperless office, but without losing sight of the fact that
we cannot do without it, we have decided to gradually implement
recycled paper into our offices, currently reaching
a volume of 30% compared to the total of paper consumed.
