In this video you'll see how to create a common cartridge, export it out of a course, and import it
back into another.
On the right here, you see in the content navigation we have a number of content units
with folders and sub folders, unit exercise, and a unit quiz.
So what we're going to do is export out this entire unit, Principle 1 Perceivable,
as a common cartridge. So to do that click on the Manage Tab, Import Export under Content.
In the Export Content area, select the content you want to export.
So we'll scroll down a little. choose Principle 1 Perceivable.
You select common Cartridge as the format for exporting. You can also export as a content package
You can export it as a content package or cartridge to the AContent repository.
Or, you can export common cartridges and content packages with AccessForAll content included.
So in this case we will just export the content as a common cartridge.
It'll package it up and drop it as a zip file into my downloads directory.
Now I can take that cartridge, and I can go to the copy of the course I've created.
This an empty shell for a course. As you can see there is no content available in the course yet.
So we scroll down a little. We find the package that we just exported, or cartridge rather.
We open it up and import that. This will take a few moments as it imports the zip file, unzips it.
Take all the content and insert that into ATutor. Take the tests and inserts those into the test manager.
Take all of the questions and insert those into the question database.
So there you go. All the content is now imported, and shows up in the content navigation.
All your folders, sub-folders, and your quiz. In this case the quiz is there. It's just not going to be
available. When you import a quiz into ATutor, it will automatically set the start date and end date to
the same, so that it doesn't inadvertently appear, and become available for your students.
So to fix that you go to Tests and Surveys. Select the quiz that you just imported.
Edit it. Modify the dates. Start date some time in the past. End some time in the future.
And save that. And now your quiz becomes available.
Like that. So now that the cartridge has been imported into another course,
the author has the option to modify any of the content that was imported, or rearrange the content,
potentially export out subsections of the content. But, what we're going to do is export out the quiz,
and then reimport it in as a second copy of the quiz.
To do that we click on Manage. Import Export.
Select the quiz.
Export format as a common cartridge. Export that out.
Drops the zip file into my downloads directory.
And I can scroll down, and find the file I just exported. It'll be this one here.
Open that and import that. It'll take a few moments to upload the file.
Unzip it. Put the tests in place in the test manager. Take the question place those in the question database.
And when its done it will have inserted a second copy of the test just below the first.
...second copy of the unit quiz.
Now I can take a subsection of the content. I'll that the Ways to Avoid creating Barriers.
and export it out as a unit of its own. So I chose the content, Ways to Avoid Creating Barriers.
Select common cartridge. Export it out. Save the file to my downloads directory.
Close that. Then I will import that back into the course as another unit.
And again it'll take the zip file and unzip it.
take all the content and insert it into ATutor content.
And there you go a second instance of the ways to avoid creating barriers subunit.
So there you have it. Creating common cartridges, exporting and importing them using ATutor.
