We are at Speakers Square, Penang and we have just
finished Himpunan Hijau in solidarity gathering in support of Kuantan
Gebeng Anti-Lynas campaign.
So today in Penang, about 500 to 1000 people gathered at Speakers Square at 6pm,
and we were gathered peacefully until a group of very thuggish UMNO supporters,
wearing UMNO t-shirts came to try to disrupt our peaceful assembly.
and despite some commotion, people has responded very well, calmly and
and sat down to listen to a few speeches. We are very happy today
to see so many people come forward, especially also to mention the support
of the Penang State Government with Chief Minister, Lim Guan Eng,
as well as EXCO members Chow Kon Yeow, as well as Lydia Ong, and Wong Hong Wai coming
up to show their support for the people's campaign against Lynas.
I was quite surprised with the turn out and it is obvious that the average Malaysian
is not so sympathetic to the people in Kuantan's plight.
I don't think they have the right to be here, no other country in the world actually wanted them.
So why are we? And as a Malaysian citizen, I have the right to, you know, to stop them from coming here.
They shouldn't be moving things few thousand miles, kilometers to
Malaysia to have it done here.
The rally was weird, like, actually it was peaceful but I do hope
that the government will stop Lynas in order to protect our environment
I do hope that our next generation will have like a better green you know
for everyone. "So, do you think that Malaysia should have more of this kind of events?"
Yes, yes, we should, we should have, I mean it is democratic country,
we should have more of this you know, I mean everyone
have their own voice, everyone should voice out what they feel like.
Today, I am really happy I came, because it is a good exposure on,
because of course we have known, we have heard everything the effects of Lynas
and everything, but this is another good way to know the real effect
how the people feel about Lynas and everything.
And this is a good way of expressing our displeasure of
Lynas and I am happy I came.
The group is really anti-Lynas in Malaysia for the safety of our children
and our people in Malaysia. And we feel that the rally today
is really successfully. Congratulations to them.
UMNO today has contributed a lot to the event in terms of violent and
making it more merrier, it is all in the video I believe. Its terrible
we are gathered here peacefully, you know. That's all.
"What is the message to those people who do not know about Lynas?"
I think it is time for them to stand up, it is very clear that this project
is part of UMNO's conspiracy. It is all money making, corruption there
is so many things involved, we have no choice but to change the
Federal Government and we will see a lot of differences, that's all.
