Good day and welcome to the weekly weather briefing from your National Weather Service
in Peachtree City, Georgia. This briefing was recorded early Thursday afternoon.
This image indicates the amount of rain that fell during the past 36 hours ending at 900
am est on Thursday morning. Widespread 2 to 3 inches occurred over portions of north Georgia
with 4 to 5 inches in the northeast. Areas of minor creek and river flooding developed
as a result of the rain. The Atlanta metro counties received 1.5 to 2 inches with the
remainder of central Georgia receiving 1 inch or less.
A wind advisory will remain in effect through 400 pm today. This may hamper the recovery
efforts in the storm damaged areas of north Georgia from Wednesday's tornadoes.
Another cold front will move through north Georgia tonight and central Georgia on Friday
with limited moisture.
Low temperatures tonight will be in the mid 20s north to mid 30s in central Georgia.
Consequently, there will be a chance of light snow showers late tonight over extreme north
Georgia. Little if any accumulation is expected.
Another fast moving cold front will approach Georgia on Saturday and move through the state
on Sunday. Once again limited moisture will be in advance of the cold front so there will
be a 20 to 30 percent chance of light rain beginning Saturday afternoon, continuing through
Saturday night, and possibly becoming mixed with some light snow before ending early Sunday
morning. No accumulations are expected.
A warm-up is expected next week as a low pressure system develops over the lower Mississippi
River Valley and moves east. At this time, slight chances of rain are expected over north
Georgia Monday night through Tuesday night with fair weather thereafter. Highs will be
in the 50s north to 60s central and lows will be in the 30s north to 40s central in Georgia.
So in summary, a wind advisory will remain in effect through 400 pm est today. Highs
will be in the 40s north to 50s in central Georgia.
A chance of light snow showers late tonight over north Georgia. Little if any accumulation
is expected. Lows in the mid 20s north to mid 30s in central Georgia.
A slight chance of rain is expected Saturday afternoon over north Georgia, continuing Saturday
night and then possibly becoming mixed with some light snow before ending early Sunday
morning. No accumulation is expected.
Warm-up is indicated for next week with a slight chance of rain over north Georgia on
Monday night through Tuesday night. Highs will be in the 50s north to 60s central and
lows will be in the 30s north to 40s central in Georgia. The next weekly weather briefing
will be on Thursday, February 7th.
