Is it bad to exercise at night?
Why would you get that idea? Well, for a woman, I understand the danger of jogging at night.
I’ve heard it is bad for you, even when the environment is safe.
Going for a run right before you plan on going to bed is counterproductive. Then your high
heart rate and physical activity wind your body up, making it impossible to sleep.
Working out makes me more tired. That ideally helps me sleep.
The physical activity may leave you tired, but is also counters the gradual slowing down
of the body prior to sleep.
Yet I see many people going for runs in the afternoon and the early evening.
The best time to workout is in the afternoon, between 2 and 6 PM.
Then where does the idea come from that it is a bad idea?
Well, working out at 9 PM before you want to go to bed at 10 PM is a bad idea. And many
people make themselves miserable going for a run and crashing on the couch, causing problems
because they don’t stretch and cool down.
So a good cool down session would be best when I’m working out at night.
But not too late, since working out raises your core temperature. That makes it harder
to sleep until it has several hours to lower.
What type of exercise helps me sleep, especially late at night?
Sex has been scientifically proven to help you sleep at night.
That is a conspiracy created by men to further their ambitions. It is like the myth that
sex cures migraines.
Actually, both of those have been proven by scientific studies.
I can imagine the research grant proposals that were written.
I can imagine the number of guys who volunteered to participate in those studies.
