Dear Friends in Christ, This week, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia proudly begins
the 36th year of observing Catholic Schools Week. The theme and logo for Catholic Schools
Week 2011 celebrate the fact that Catholic schools are an added value, A+ for our nation.
Every day Catholic school graduates contribute to the strength of our great country.
We proudly boast of our 70 Catholic schools in the city of Philadelphia as well as the
114 Catholic schools serving the needs of students in our four suburban counties.
The presence of these excellent Catholic educational entities saves our taxpayers more than
$900,000,000.00 per year. Our schools, focused on providing a safe environment for
our students on a daily basis, instill in our young people Catholic moral teaching enabling
each student to become a person of service with strong values lasting a lifetime.
As Archbishop of Philadelphia, I extend my personal gratitude to our pastors, priests, religious,
parishioners, administrators, teachers, staff and parents who collaborate to keep the schools
of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia A+ for Christ, for our Church and for America!
Happy and memorable Catholic Schools Week 2011!
