(music) Gold medal, gold, I will get a gold medal
not if I get a gold medal but I will get a gold medal

I fell pregnant very easily, had a beautiful pregnancy, um and at 36 weeks, all hell broke loose
um, we were rushed to the hospital by a friend and when we got there, there was no heartbeat
they couldn't find Jayme's heartbeat and I was bleeding out and they decided that they had to take her
immediately, so it was another massive emergency and um she was born and they said
there'll be no hope, we don't know how long she has been without oxygen. We must transfer her
to a neonatal specialist unit but unfortunately I wasn't well enough to travel with her so Steven
was sort of given the choice of staying and being with me or going with Jayme so that someone was there when she passed
so I said no, you must go with her.
The thing that really go me was, I think the first weekend that Jayme was there, Kyle came
with me and he stayed in the room with me and we went outside and sat down on the steps
and like, this is a six year old boy, anyway, he put his arm around me and said, don't worry
Dad, she'll be coming home and we'll be a family, and the that's history, now we are where
we are today (music)

I was a swimmer for five years and I have slammed my little butt off
and just wasn't getting anywhere, just wasn't getting the results and people who came in after
me were overtaking me and so I thought, I want to make the Paralympics but I'm not going to do it here
and I was sitting in front of the TV watching the 2004 Paralympic cycling
and it was the only sport I would sit long enough to watch
and the commentator came on the TV and said we desperately need more girls
and I said, fine, I can ride a bike, but I didn't come off training wheels until I was 11
so Mum and Dad thought, yeah right, she's not going to do that and then I did, I went round that
velodrome track for a while, fell off a few times, got back on slowly
started training, met all these wonderful people, met Clare who's helped, and now
here I am today, (music). Are you ready? Today we've got 70, 75 laps
I like the fact that she has fallen quite alot, that she's got up, adjusted herself back on and gone and done it again.
particularly with the disability that she has, that's quite something to contend with
OK half a lap
It took her months and months and months of practices to be confident enough to ride one full lap of the track.
it required a lot of time and it required a lot of patience
After, oh I don't know how many times it was, she eventually did one full bend, then she
after she did one full bend, we couldn't stop her, and that was the beginning of, well, I knew then that
that she was going to be able to do the event fully.
OK, that's it.
My main event is the 500 metres Time Trial it's two laps around the track and it's hell for leather all the way
From the start I've got to nail that first corner, and then if I stuff up my first corner
that's it, it's no, no good time for me, so I've really got to get that first corner down
and just race for the next one and half laps as fast as I can
and then I get lifted off my bike because I don't walk off my bike after a 500 metre
I broke my world record but I couldn't claim that world record because I wasn't internationally classified
they took me into France and got my classification finalised and everything
But on the next day, back on the track I broke the world record again
And then at Nationals, I broke the record again. (WOW.. Jayme Paris at 46.61)
It's the most fantastic sight to see this kid, going around at speeds of 45 kilometres and hour
when if she ran down to the front thing would fall head over tail
but she can get on that bike and she's free and it is the most amazing thing.

I like to give what I've got, I'd like to say that we're still a young sport
I mean, I'm the youngest. We're having people retire after, this one (Paralympic Games). We need more young people
not only girls this time, we need younger blind boys, younger blind girls, younger CP girls, younger CP boys
we need cyclists to come and try. There's no classification who can't come and try (Music)
