What do you think of the weight loss results using kettlebells?
Better a kettlebell than a beer belly.
I heard that you get a better workout via kettlebells than barbells.
Kettlebells do a good job of increasing your agility. It’s hard not to when you’re
swinging a heavy weight around.
Someone told me that it improves your balance, too.
You have to have good balance when you’re the center of gravity for a gyrating forty
pound weight.
I’ve heard it improves your strength.
You improve your strength if you lift weights, too.
Why are Kettlebells so popular?
Kettlebells turn weight lifting into a cardiovascular workout. You burn calories swinging them around
as well as when you lift them, up to four hundred calories in half an hour.
They’re also simple to use. Each weight is self-contained with an easy to use handle.
Did you know those originated with kettles filled with weights? The Russian army needed
to get its guys back into shape, back in the old days before they had barbells.
And it seemed to work, since they are still in use.
Well, no one is taking the kettle off the fire Mom cooks with to get ripped arms anymore.
I guess back then, there was the old fashioned solution of carrying water on a harness, too.
Or throwing heavy bales of hay and bags of grain.
Today’s kettlebells are made of cast iron and painted black to look like those old kettles.
Be sure to hold them with two hands, because the velocity makes them deadly projectiles
if you lose your grip.
You said kettlebells go back over a century in Russia. Why is it new to me?
It was brought over by Russian immigrants in the 1980s or so. It became popular because
it both burns fat and builds muscle.
That’s the intent of pretty much every workout routine.
It tones your body faster than many other workouts, because you have to control the
weight.
Unless you want the gym manager mad you accidentally sent a weight through his window.
