Hey everybody on YouTube and welcome to the behind the scenes of the music video we made
for Lady Gaga's song 'Dance in the Dark'.
My name is Remy, I'm the director and producer of the video and about six months ago
I set out with a small group of people to make a music video for this amazing song.
Ever since people have asked me hundreds of times; why would one do that?
Why would one make a music video of a Lady Gaga song?
I think the question however should have been:
Why make a music video for this specific Lady Gaga song?
I found that if you ask several Lady Gaga fans which song is his or her favorite
You'll probably find that almost half will answer 'Dance in the Dark'.
So I wondered why is that?
What is it about this song that makes people relate to it so well?
I think it's because the song tends to make people feel understood and less alone.
But the song definitely had me thinking because; we all live our daily routine, we go to school, we go to work.
But do we ever really stop and look in the mirror and ask ourselves;
What are we like to the outside world and the people surrounding us?
Are we being just us or are we hiding something about ourselves we're feeling insecure about?
We're all aware of the fact that people tend to judge, all the time.
There's a social pressure surrounding us making us aware that
there are eyes constantly focused on us and we're not able to let
the awareness drop until we close the door behind us.
For me, as well as I know for many others
this is the reason that we're able to relate to the song so well.
There are so many people weiring emotional masks out of insecurity.
Have you ever found yourself acting extremely cheerful simply to cover
the fact that you're dealing with something and you don't want anyone to notice?
Or noticed that a friend didn't dare to come forward with his or her beliefs?
That someone was bullying simply to make sure he wouldn't be the one to be bullied?
Or even things like weiring only clothes from expensive brands because
you feel you won't fit in otherwise.
We're all dealing with these kinds of things all the time.
And this also goes for so many gay kids around the world.
They feel that they have to hide themselves out of all sorts of reasons
whether it's rejectment by family at home, being bullied at school
fear of losing their friends or having to deal with things like prejudice
and being confronted with stereotypes that they don't feel related to.
And this really had me thinking because
What would you do if you'd feel the people surrounding you might
not accept you the way you really are?
Whether this is at school, at home, when you're going out,
at the sports club or even at work.
What would you do if you'd feel like you're the only one dealing with an issue?
And what would you do if you'd find out that friends of yours are hiding
something from you because they're afraid of what you'd might think of them?
Would you ask them what's bothering them and maybe even promise yourself
to be positive about it, whatever it might be, whether it's because of
beliefs, bullying, trouble at home or having feelings for someone of the same sex?
Within her lyrics, Lady Gaga found a way to talk about these emotions we all share
and she did so in such an uplifing way.
Basically I think that if a song is able to achieve something like that
it really deserves some special attention.
That's why when we found out that 'Dance in the Dark' wasn't going to get an official music video,
suddenly this project really felt like the right thing to do.
To me, this really was a once in a lifetime project because when we started it
I had so many doubts on whether we could actually pull it off.
But looking back now I can honestly say that I have never been so amazed in my life
over the amount of people that were willing to support his project because
they believed so firmly in what we were trying to do.
And I really owe every single one of them.
I also owe a big thanks to all the organizations and foundations
that aided us in making this video.
And I want to thank everybody on YouTube for their amazing support
and loving and inspiring messages.
I can't tell you guys enough how much your enthusiasm and appreciation
means to me and all the members of the cast and crew.
And of course there is one person in particular that deserves the biggest
thanks of all and that's definitely you Gaga.
For over two years now you've been working so incredibly *** making people
not only believe in their inner strength.
But through you're music you've been able to find a way to unite us all.
You're giving everyone who's dealing with insecurity hope and faith in themselves again
because they no longer feel they're on their own.
It makes you such an inspiration to this world and this music video really resembles
us saying: Thank you and this is our gift to you.
