(woman) Congratulations. You're moving into your new home.
There are a few things you need to get organised first,
and this chapter will give you information
on topics such as insurance, gas and electric,
and some of the added services you get when you're living in sheltered housing.
It's important to remember that our insurance only covers our buildings -
not your belongings.
We would expect you to get contents insurance
to make sure you're covered for things like fires, leaks or break-ins.
The monthly premiums may not be as much as you think.
From the start of your tenancy you will be responsible for council tax.
Depending on the size of your family and what benefits you receive,
you may get a discount.
Unless we tell you differently,
you will have to arrange and pay for your own gas and electricity.
If you want to change the company you get this from, that's OK.
It's worth shopping around.
Some companies offer special rates for people on lower incomes.
(man) If you're moving into sheltered housing
you will already have been given details
of the services that will be available to you.
You may have use of a common lounge or other facilities,
as well as being able to take part in activities.
As you have been advised, a separate charge will be made for housing support,
on top of your rent.
However, you may get help towards these costs.
