Hey everyone! KB here, and this is part 3 of my Nottingham Forest career mode. So in
the last match we wound up our preseason by finally getting a goal and a win against FC
Utrecht. I was happy with my first 11, and looking to get some decent backups while eliminating
the dead wood. And right on schedule, Middlesbrough obliged me, submitting a 325k offer for Matt
Derbyshire that I couldn't wait to accept. That did leave me down to just 4 strikers,
so I took the advice of tekoburnz and put in an enquiry for Lyon's Yassine Benzia. Wigan
also responded to my offer for Nouha Dicko in the last episode - so I agreed to his demands
and said he would be a squad rotation player with Abdoun as the main right winger.
No sooner had Derbyshire packed his bags, than I had another contract to offer - this
time to Hannover centre back Christopher Avevor, who also was offered terms as a Squad player.
Lyon also replied to me, requesting 1.6 million for the striker. I think that's a little high,
and opt for an offer of 1.1 instead. There was however bad news from Dicko's camp, who
turned down my contract wanting a bigger squad role. I offer a bit more cash, and hopefully
he'll take it. In the meantime, Lyon have accepted my offer - I also offer Benzia terms
as a squad player for 8 grand a week, and offer Avevor improved terms after he wanted
more responsibility in the team. I also make a couple of enquiries - Frimpong from Arsenal
and Ryan Gould, a CAM from Dundee United.
And just like that, our first competitive match of the season rolls around - a Capital
One Cup match against lowly Hartlepool. Keeping the same team as I had against Utrecht, and
hope that the momentum will carry through in the next match.
3' We start off brightly, ABDOUN making a promising CROSS, but the STRIKER is OFFSIDE
We keep using the right wing productively 15' REYES CROSSing for ABDOUN but his HEADER
is SAVED 25' WILSON CLATTERS POOLE, STRIKER'S FORCED
OFF THE PITCH 30' *** CAN'T MAKE THE RIGHT CONTACT WITH
A PATERSON CROSS 33' LANSBURY OVER THE TOP, MACKIE CAN'T CONVERT
FROM JUST OUTSIDE THE AREA 41' PATERSON OVER THE TOP, MACKIE SHRUGS OFF
DEFENDERS, BUT CAN'T BEAT THE KEEPER 45' ABDOUN LOFTS IT, *** LATCHES ON, PUTS
A WICKED SHOT PAST THE KEEPER TO OPEN THE SCORING.
The second half was becoming a formality. I was going through the motions so my players
weren't knackered, and Hartlepool were hardly even putting up a fight. But of course, EA
have to screw it all up, and what a doozie..*** thing crashed! Easiest game I've played so
far, and it buggered up.
so I got up to the game again: Benzia bid, how much for Frimmy and Gauldy, Have a contract,
you have a contract, Gauld bid, Frimmy bid, bye Derbyshire, have a contract. ambitious
prick, greedy ***, greedier ***, have a contract, match! FINALLY!
And you know what? FIFA decided to play the *** card. The last game seemed too easy
apparently, so FIFA decided to make Hartlepool almost impenetrable! They were dribbling through
my entire midfield, and Cohen gets a yellow card(9'), a desperate foul bringing their
player to the ground. They get through on goal but poke it wide, and a return effort
from Lansbury is fired straight at the keeper. (27') The rest of the half is messy, my wingers
unable to get past their full backs and we go into the break at 0-0.
The second half starts, and Abdoun and *** combine to try to release Mackie, but he's
muscled off the ball(51'). Paterson also tries to run at the defence but his pass inside
is too lazy and easily cleared, as is Lansbury's through ball to ***. Hartlepool hardly even
venture into our half, but I can't get close to breaking them down - our only real chance
coming in the 90th minute. Paterson crosses over but Majewski can't direct his header
properly, and we're looking at extra time.
Hartlepool start extra time brightly, but a quick counter attack allows Lansbury to
unleash Mackie. However, his shot is poor and flashes straight across the goal (96').
I decide to make a triple substitution with 15 minutes to play: I replace the knackered
*** with Darius Henderson, Paterson comes off for Grealish and and Lansbury makes way
for Andy Reid.
We're running out of time, and we're not making our chances count: Mackie is unable to make
the most of Reid's through ball(106'), while Abdoun gets the better of their full back
but runs out of room to make the cross(113').
Then, in the 115th, Mackie steals the ball from their defender - but his shot is palmed
away from the keeper. Reid's corner is nodded down by Lascelles, and Henderson hits the
ball low and into the far corner with only four minutes to go.
They threaten to get even - a penalty in the dying seconds scrappily cleared by Majewski
to sound the final whistle, and get us through to the next round of the cup.
Thanks for watching guys,
