Are you tolerant
of failure
to a certain degree?
And do you learn from it?
Is a huge
cultural characteristic that successful companies have
and unsuccessful companies
don't have,
no question.
Failure for us - I mean the 787 Dreamliner
was a.. which will be introduced next week
into service uh
was
uh
a smashing
success
as a product..
Most successful
product
introduction that
we've ever had.
But
what
really struggled
in the implementation
of
the
- we've always had a thousand of these things sold
which is a
record - but the implementation of it was poor.
And
a lot to learn
from it,
but
the bigger the innovation
the more you can tolerate
some element of failure
because the ultimate pay-off is there.
And that's really the story
of the 787.
If we had
these kind of execution problems
with a product that wasn't innovative
we'd be in
real trouble.
So
I think if your game is innovation you can tolerate a little more failure.
Learn from it.
If you're game isn't innovation
you have much less room for error.
