The hospitality program is very very hands on it's an apprenticeship
So our students come to class one day a week
with lecture and lab
and the other days they're actually working at a hotel property learning their
skills. It really helps
with students who have to work
they're actually
earning their education and a grade for their job
and a student can be living in Clinton, Muscatine, Dubuque
They come to class one day a week and
their job could be up in Dubuque
An so they are not travelling all the time for their job
and there's a lot that they learn housekeeping
details
laundry
maintenance. They do dining room experience
kitchen
inventories, food supply
They work, front desk and sales and catering. They also learn a hotel operations system
for reservations. We really try to give the students
skills that they can actually take with them whether they stay in the quad
cities or their travel
to the larger cities or resorts, Las Vegas,
because the skills don't change
so they actually have a training log
that they have to have documented on information from all aspects of the
hotel property and that they can actually take with them
The employer can actually see that they understand
the skills that they're learning
within the program
going through all the different areas through their two years
they may find that they really enjoyed the front desk or maybe they like the
human resource
department
of the hotel
or they liked the sales and catering
so they're actually able to have these todbits throughout the two years
and then find really their passion
this program is geared for people that
love the industry ,feel that the hotel
resort environment is a fun environment to be involved with
it's always changing it's not an office job you're not going to be monday
through friday
nine to five
It's always something different you meet a lot of great people on the way
and there's a lot of opportunity for growth
we are a stat of the art facility here on campus. We have our dining room
suite
we have our bedrooms suites, laundry
on front desk area
so all of your training, all of your classrooms are here on campus and really gives you that
understanding of what you'll be doing and having the culinary arts
facility in the building also we really have a great partnership
with putting on different events, we work with a lot of people in the
community and that has been our biggest asset
to help our students gain employment
they still have to interview for these hotel property jobs, but
they will be noted they are a hospitality student that is working on their
apprenticeship
my second year students that are all employed
find that they continue and find advancement actually with their hotel
property that they are at
we have one year event management certificate program
on these that program is just for one year, you take a couple lecture classes
then you also taking internships with event planners within the
quad cities doing various events from car shows to weddings
Come see us, come see our facility and see that it's a great place for learning
and that you can really work on your skills and be able to be successful
and have a great time doing it
