Hey guys welcome to Cool Bits where we point out our favorite moments from popular and
maybe not so popular games. These Cool Bits might be a secret, an Easter Egg, or just
a small detail that really resonated with us.
This time we'll be taking a look at a small detail in Mario Kart: Wii that at least one
person didn't see coming.
So if you've played a Mario Kart game before, then you've surely met Lakitu. You know, the
little guy in the cloud who officiates every race. Not only does he man the countdown at
the starting line and checkered flag at the finish line, but he also provides lap updates
and towing service. Oh, and he'll even appear if you get turned around during a race, urging
you to turn back around for everyone's safety.
But it's this very same safety-first mentality that might very well be Lakitu's undoing.
To see what we mean, try heading to any track with a smashing obstacle, such as the stomping
machines of Toad Factory, or the Thwomps found in any of Bowser's Castles. Now you probably
fully well know what happens if you get caught in their path
But as it turns out, these dangers aren't limited only to the racers this time around.
Because if you turn around to face the wrong way, causing Lakitu to appear, then position
him so he's in the path of just such a smashing obstacle, like say a Thwomp...well, you can
see what happens for yourself. Again. And again. And again.
Aww, poor guy didn't even see it coming. All he was trying to do was help you turn around
and this is how you repay him?
Yeah, even though, Lakitu's have historically been immune to track hazards it seems the
years might have finally started taking their toll on his reaction time. And we think this
is a pretty neat--if entirely cruel--detail. Particularly as it's nearly impossible to
see unless you're actively trying to torment poor Lakitu.
And that wraps up this episode of Cool Bits for Mario Kart Wii

we may feature it in a future episode.
