Hey guys.
Welcome once again to On The Table, the show that delves
into the depths of gaming to bring you the treasures you
need to know about.
Since the last episode, there have been a number of major
releases, not least of which is the launch of Gatecrash,
the latest set of cards for Magic the Gathering.
This to the latest twisted denizens of the chaos wastes
marching into Warhammer Fantasy, some new dwarves from
Avatars of War, as well as some great new board games and
Kickstarters.
And we have enough to get any geek excited.
Anyway, with so much awesome to get through, let's get on
with the show.
What better way to kick off the show than with the release
of Gatecrash, the latest set of cards
from Magic the Gathering.
Magic fans have been waiting feverishly for this new set,
bringing with it five more guilds of Ravnica--
the wealthy and sinister Orzhov, the assassins and
spies of Dimir, the military might of Boros, the strange
evolutionary creations of the Simic, and the brutal Gruul.
Each of these guilds brings with it a unique mechanic for
you to employ against your enemies.
These reflect the characteristics of their
guild, with Orzhov using extort to slowly
place you in debt.
And when you're in debt to Orzhov, you'll be
paying with your life.
Whatever guild you choose, Gatecrash has a lot of really
fun parts to play.
The various mechanics and abilities work well alongside
those of previous Magic sets, meaning you'll be able to come
up with some kick *** deck lists.
Anyway, if you have a new deck list that you think is awesome
or just want to get some feedback on something, why not
post it on our Beasts of War forums, or send it to us at
community@beastsofwar.com.
Now we're going to planeswalk away from Magic the Gathering
and over to the world of board games.
First up, we have something new from the creator of Ticket
to Ride, Alan R. Moon, who has left the rail track behind and
is now partaking of some mystical Wizard's Brew.
In this game, wizards must traverse the land, wielding
the elements of magic and gathering ingredients to
create a powerful elixir of life.
While this might sound easy for a mighty wizard, you will
have to contend with your fellow learned scholars as you
compete with each other for the resources needed to create
that all-important concoction.
Which begs the question, just what is in those
wizard brews anyway?
With a setup that changes every time, a nice bidding
system that creates plenty of player interaction, and
fitting into an hour of play, it sounds like a neat game to
use between those big game bouts.
In the grim darkness of the future, there is only war.
Well, and Talisman.
More specifically, a Talisman-inspired board game
set in the universe of Games Workshop's Warhammer 40k.
Let's take a look at Relic.
In this board game from Fantasy Flight Games, two to
four players take on the Mantle of Heroes from the
Imperium of Man, sent to investigate and put an end to
dangerous activity in the Antium sector.
You must defeat enemies, succeed in missions, and gain
experience in order to level up and take on whatever lies
beyond a steadily opening warp rift.
Sounds pretty epic, doesn't it?
This game is, of course, based on the Talisman franchise, and
I think we've all had a few games that took rather longer
than we thought.
Our hope is that this new iteration not only fits in
with the universe of Warhammer 40k, but allows for a
potentially quicker playtime, too.
Well, guys, it's time once again for your favorite part
of the show--
the bit where you get a chance to get your mitts on a whole
bunch of free stuff simply by dropping us a
comment here on YouTube.
First, let's see which one of you will be stepping out onto
the futuristic pitch of Mantic's DreadBall.
Drum roll, please.
And the winner is Patrick Flinn.
Congratulations, mate, and be sure to let us know what to
you and your buddies think of this great game.
In this episode, in conjunction with Wayland Games
and West Wind Productions, we're giving away a mighty
collection for Empire of the Dead.
And all you have to do to be in with the chance of winning
is post a comment below this video here on YouTube.
And remember, Wayland Games will ship worldwide, so no
matter where you are out there, you can
have a go at entering.
Empire of the Dead places you in an alternate Victorian
world of horror and fairy tale, where everything that
ever went bump in the night was real.
Werewolves, vampires, zombies, and ghouls clash with the
likes of Sherlock Holmes on the streets
of London and beyond.
So you could win an Empire of the Dead rulebook, which
contains all you need to play, and at 152 pages, this is a
full-color, lavishly illustrated hardback book,
featuring loads of evocative illustrations and some
full-color photographs.
Alongside that, you could also win these box sets.
A gentleman's club who, behind the elegant doors of their
London bases, plot and maneuver to
secure their power.
A vampire clan--
ancient beyond reckoning, these Nosferatu have moved
from chilling nightmare to terrifying reality and seek to
tighten their grip on the souls of man.
The secretive brotherhood who've added mace and
firebrand to bell, book and candle.
Their aim?
To defend the faith, protect the innocent, and stamp out
the evil threatening to sweep all before it.
The Lycaonian werewolves, no longer able to sit by and
watch as their secretive world is menaced by the march of
technology, they have stirred their followers to find and
destroy any who threaten them.
And finally, Victorians zombies, raised from their
grave, and whose mindless but unstoppable onslaught is
limited only by the evils of their summoners.
Anyway, that's a fantastic rulebook and box set that is
sure to get you right into the middle of Empire of the Dead.
So if you want to win it, you've got to be in it.
Post your comment below.
Hey there, partner.
I'm just super excited because Wild West Exodus, the upcoming
new game about life in a truly weird and certainly wild West
is heading to Kickstarter.
This is a world with robots, cyborgs, cowboys,
and werewolf natives.
If that doesn't appeal to you, then you obviously didn't have
a childhood.
The sculpts themselves are looking great already, and
even companies like Micro Art Studio have got behind them to
make their gaming terrain.
So it will be really cool seeing what it can accomplish
with the mighty power of you guys and crowd
funding behind it.
I'm so excited about this game, mostly because it
provides me with an excuse to scalp Justin.
It's always good to see a Kickstarter project succeed,
especially if it means we'll be getting a kick *** video
games based off a kick *** miniatures game.
Anima, Gate of Memories is an upcoming action RPG game based
around the world and style of the Anima, Beyond Fantasies
RPG and the Anima Tactics war game.
The game design keeps the stylish and instantly
recognizable look of the Anima artwork and minis, and will
allow us to further explore and
experience this game setting.
Thanks to the successful crowd funding, this promising new
game will hopefully be appearing on Windows, Mac,
Linux, and Steam, and could possibly even see a release
onto console.
Did you help with the funding for this project?
If so, post below and tell us your hopes.
When looking at role playing games, where better to start
than with the granddaddy of them all--
Dungeons and Dragons.
Wizards of the Coast are currently working their way up
towards the next edition of this classic game of fantasy
adventures, and we have just got a look at some great new
concept art.
For the most part, these concepts show the usual
fantasy tropes we've come to expect from
Dungeons and Dragons.
There are halfling adventurers, human barbarians,
and of course owlbears.
And it wouldn't be D&D without owlbears.
Then we also have some other sinister creatures your
adventures will face, such as this strange
were-hyena and this--
I don't know what this is.
Anyway, as well as all this fantastic artwork, the latest
play test packet was released onto the internet not long
ago, including rules for playing as barbarians,
exploring the world around you, and plenty of other
goodies for budding dungeon masters looking to take their
group into the future of D&D.
We certainly want to know what you think about this art
style, so get chatting with us and give us your opinion on
the future of the biggest role playing franchise out there.
So you have your party of adventures.
You have your D20s.
You have your harsh DM who makes your every decision lead
to a painful death for your character.
But something is missing.
Of course-- a dark and dingy dungeon to explore, filled
with fearsome treasure and valuable monsters.
I think that's it.
Anyway, why not delve into Dwarven Forge's fantastic new
Catacomb Set?
Dungeon crawling adventures have long been some of my all
time favorite tabletop games, and getting yourself a cool
set of dungeon terrain can really enhance your gaming
experience and paint a vivid picture in your mind's eye.
Just be careful.
You never know what manner of horrifying creatures you might
find in those dark, mysterious depths.
Games Workshop have certainly been praying to the dark gods
these past few months with updates for Chaos Space
Marines, Demons, and now the Warriors of Chaos for
Warhammer Fantasy Battles.
Blood for the mud god!
Sorry.
Had something stuck in my throat there.
Anyway, so yes.
February spells the start of an incursion from the north as
the heavy plate-clad warriors from the snows descend on the
weakling empire to appease their gods and bring the petty
mortals to their knees.
A whole host of new miniatures will be coming to a tabletop
near you, including the mighty Slaughter Beast, the Mutalith
Vortex Beast, and even some horribly
mutated Forsaken Warriors.
A particular favorite of some of the crew is the new Throgg
model, which should allow you to field an entire army of
monstrous trolls.
If you're looking for a heroine that could portray
your character in a skirmish game, then we might just have
the site for you.
Bombshell Miniatures have recently previewed some of
their fantastic looking new sculpts, which will be coming
to a tabletop near you very soon.
They've got stuff for steampunk, Wild
West fantasy, or sci-fi.
Though admittedly, some of these might not be everyone's
cup of tea.
But we think they have a certain cartoon charm that
could make them perfect for a game like Malifaux by Weird
Miniatures or Blackwater Gulch by Gangfight Games.
I'm certainly getting a one million years BC Raquel Welch
vibe from that cave woman, though you probably want to
avoid angering her while she's holding that
fairly massive club.
Avatars of War is a company that we've been consistently
wowed by over the past few years.
They started off creating singular miniatures for their
Arena of Death style skirmish game, but have grown in size
and potential incredibly since then.
Their newest area of speciality is Warthrone, a
fantasy world filled with everything from humans to orcs
and everything in between.
Something that has certainly caught our Ben's eye is their
new range of dwarf warriors to use in 28
millimeter fantasy warfare.
These fantastic kits, featuring shedloads of
customization options.
Started out with the berserkers, but you can now
add to your horde with bronze shields and iron shields, as
well as generals to lead them into battle.
Little is known of the rules for Warthrone as of yet, but
these models would be perfect for using in other battle
games as alternative units.
A massive thumbs up from us for this one.
Well, that's it for another episode, but at Beasts of War,
the gaming never stops.
Remember, you can always get more news and reviews as well
as vids of us having a laugh over at beastsofwar.com.
And be sure to join us on Saturdays for our regular chat
show, The Weekender.
As always, you can also find us at Geek and Sundry
alongside other magnificent heroes of the geek kingdom
such as Felicia Day and Wil Wheaton.
That makes us almost kind of famous.
Anyway, Geek and Sundry has a great selection of vids that
are sure to keep you entertained, so once you're
finished watching this, why don't you go check out shows
like Space Janitors, Learning Town, and of course Table Top.
Personally, though, I would highly recommend
checking out Felicia--
playing Battle Toads.
Anyway, that's it from us.
And until next time, remember you have been
watching On The Table.
