My name is Luis Adrian Rax.
I am from Chisec, Alta Verapaz.
I spent nearly my entire childhood in a market
selling things, earning some money.
Just trying to have enough to make it through the day.
I was in Sustainable Tourism 10th grade
when in the first few months
there was a sign that said "Clown Project."
"Members of the Clown Project."
There was a list of names and I started to read.
I asked a man whose name is Mr. Miguel,
who is from the dental clinic,
I asked him, "And this, what is this?"
"The Clown Project? What do they do?"
He told me, "They're clowns"
who give information in the villages about ***/AIDS."
"They give presenations, go out and do this and that."
"I would like to be a clown," I told him.
"I am going to meet the requirements."
I got to know the Clown Project group
from Panajachel.
They're called the Clown Project, too.
We met and I began to get involved in it,
in the presentations and other things.
They got to know me better
and I liked to do it.
I don't know, I liked doing it.
We went out into the communities
to do presentations in Q'eqchi
saying
how a person contracts ***,
how to avoid it,
the methods through which you can prevent it- everything.
The organization 'Meeting Place'
from Nicaragua
came to do a workshop
at the school.
They talked about
machismo,
women's *** rights,
self-esteem.
I met...
the man in charge of Meeting Place,
the director, and we started to chat.
I'm known for asking a lot of questions
so I said to him, "What is this? What is that?"
And...
...and he told me that they hold a conference
annually in Nicaragua.
Young people from all over Central America attend.
A few years went by
and when my invitation came
I was invited to participate to form
a network of Central American facilitators,
to take part in a three year course,
three years,
to discuss politics,
about sexuality,
masculinity,
those types of things.
And...
now we are going to learn
or, rather, exchange our experiences
as young people from different organizations
from each country.
Let's say that
there will be six representatives from Guatemala.
We will use our experiences to describe
what our obstacles have been,
the difficulties and struggles we have had
in the organizations
as young people
and the struggle that we have faced in each area
because we are part of an organization.
