Hello there Unboxers!
This is Sakis Karpas from GameOver.gr in another episode of Unboxholics!
Today we will take a look at Sony Xperia Tablet S!
Sony's Xperia line will keep us busy for the upcoming months since several Xperia models are being produced as we speak whether it is a tablet or smartphone.
The retail package arrived a bit damaged but it really doesn't matter! Let's cut to the chase!
Sony Xperia Tablet S is the first thing you'll find when you open the box. Let's leave it aside for now to check what else is inside.
Some user manuals were hidden under the tablet.
Moreover, a USB cable for data transfer...
An AC Adapter which looks alike to the ones Sony uses for its Vaio Series.
Some quick quides are also included but let's take a closer look to the tablet!
With the super-slim aluminium case and splash-proof body, you can enjoy your Xperia™ Tablet S inside or outside worry free. It’s ready to work beautifully anytime, anywhere.
A VGA camera is located on the top-front side of the tablet that is used for video chat.
A headphones port and a Memory Card slot can be found on the left side of the tablet.
While a volume slider button, a microphone and a power on/off button can be found on the right side.
A single microphone can also be found on the top side of the tablet.
We tested the 8MP camera of Sony Xperia Tablet S and we found that it has several issues when it comes to low lightning photos.
The main speakers of the tablet are located on its bottom-back side along with the charging port which has a safety cap that can be easily lost.
Let's take a look at some specs and dimensions!
Height: 174.4mm
Width: 239.8mm
Thickness: 8.8mm
Weight: 586g
Sony Xperia Tablet S comes with an NVIDIA® Tegra® 3 mobile processor clocked at 1.3 GHz.
It's memory size capacity is 1GB while the total capacity of the model we have in our hands is 16GB.
Its display size is 9.4 inches
with a resolution of 1280 x 800 and a pixel density of 161 ppi.
Its battery type is Lithium Ion and its battery life time is 12 hours (Standard Usage).
Sony Xperia Tablet S ships with a custom layer atop Android 4.0.3! Sony has promised that an Android 4.1 update is coming very soon.
Xperia™ Tablet S handles multi-touch features great although the low levels of pixel density will disturb most advanced users.
The tablet's colors and display quality is pretty good but we'd love it if the tablet's display was brighter.
Xperia™ Tablet S is a great multitasker since its specifications allow that.
Moreover, we should mention that the quick access toolbar and the Guest mode are really useful tools.
Sony's unique ‘Guest Mode’ allows you to share your Tablet with friends and family. This mode lets you easily create user profiles with custom configuration. Create one for the kids, one for guest users, even granny! You are the ‘owner’, so you remain in control of which apps and widgets other users have access to.
Sony Xperia Tablet S is available now at the price of €399 (16GB). 32GB, 64GB and 3G models are also available at higher prices.
Overall, Xperia Tablet S is a great start for Sony in the tablets business with great specs at a fair price.
What we didn't like at all from Sony Xperia Tablet S was its low DPI.
