Hello and welcome to Cupcake Addiction's Hello Kitty Cupcake Tutorial where I'll be showing
you how to make this gorgeous Hello Kitty cupcake. I've had so many requests for Hello
Kitty in a cupcake and this is my take on this iconic little kitty cat.
Tools and equipment that we will be using today:
I have some white fondant. And I also have just a very small amount of
red fondant. I've bought pre-colored fondant for my red. You can also use pink. Hello Kitty
can either have red or pink. I've got a cupcake which I've actually baked
in a white case today so that it will match in with my white kitty.
I've got a little bit of water, just a paint brush, a cocktail stick or tooth pick.
I've got some mini M&Ms. I've picked out the brown and the yellow ones.
I've got just some supermarket black liquid food coloring.
I've got a circle cutter. This is a 3 ΒΌ-inch or an 8 centimeter. For me, I've just chosen
one that's roughly about a size bigger than the top of my cupcake.
I've got a fondant roller which is a regular rolling pin if you don't have a fondant roller.
I've got a knife. I've got a little bit of our perfectly pipeable
buttercream frosting which we do have a great tutorial and recipe for on our channel if
you want to check that out. And I've got just a little shaker with some
cornflour in it. You can also use icing sugar and that's just to stop my fondant from sticking.
First up today, we're going to just do a nice little frosting dome. So I'm just going to
take my knife, dip it into that frosting and I'm just going to spread that frosting into
a bit of a mound on top of my cupcake. And I am just going to smooth that out to the
edges. Try not to go over the edges. And then I'm just going to...Using the back of my knife,
because it's nice and flat, I am just going to smooth that round into a nice little dome
shape. If you're making a whole lot of this, don't do too many of these in advance because
the buttercream tends to crust a little bit so you really want to frost and then fondant
and then frost and then fondant. Otherwise, you'll find your fondant has nothing to stick
to. So I'm going to take a little bit of this
white fondant. I like to keep mine in a zip lock bag. It just stops it from drying out.
I'm just going to knead it in between my hands just for a couple of seconds to soften it
up, make it nice and easy to roll. Roll it into a ball because I'm going for a bit of
a circle shape. A little bit of this cornflour, pop down the
fondant, give it a little bit of swipe around in that cornflour and I'm just going to roll
it out into a bit of a circle shape so that we can cut our nice Hello Kitty face circle.
It doesn't really matter how thick or thin you want to roll this. It just depends on
how much you like the taste of fondant. You can also use modeling chocolate but modeling
chocolate is not going to be quite as bright white as the fondant is, so keep that in mind.
I am going to take that lovely circle cutter and just cut out a nice circle. And then I
am going to slide that circle (Inaudible 03:22) on top of that frosting.
Now, I'm going to use, I guess, the flats of my fingers just to smooth it down to the
edges so you can see there I'm kind of holding it in position with my middle finger. And
with my index finger, I'm just pushing it down to the edges. You can see by going that
size cookie cutter, bigger than the top of the cupcake, once you put the frosting on,
it really gives you almost a perfect fit. So once you're happy that you've got your
fondant secure, just give it a little bit rock around in the palm of your hand just
to smooth it out. You should have a lovely smooth fondant dome.
Now we're going to add kitty's ears. So take some of that leftover fondant. You just want
to rip off, sort of, 2 similar sized, about a pea-shaped ball. I'll get a little bit more
there. So I like to do both of mine together so that I can see what I'm working with. Make
sure that they are about the same size. I'm going to roll that into a ball. And then I'm
just going to use my finger to take it out into a bit of a cone shape.
Do that again with the other one -- into a ball and then out into a bit of a cone or
teardrop, I guess. Take a little bit of that water, just a little
bit. You really don't want too much. Less is more with the water. I'm just going to
add a bit of a dot there and a bit of a dot there for Hello Kitty's ears. And push those
ears down. That water is going to be the glue that sticks it on. Just flatten the ear off
nicely. And again with the other side. There's Kitty's ears.
Now, it's time for us to do our whiskers. So for the whiskers, I'm just going to dip
the cocktail stick into that liquid food coloring. You can also use an edible marker for this
if you like. You can cut little pieces of licorice. But this is just the easiest option.
Now I'm just going to [take] the cocktail stick and I'm just going to slide it down.
Dip... the nice steady hand. Sometimes it does help to balance your hand as you're doing
this on the mat or the surface that you're working on. And we'll give Kitty his whiskers.
Her whiskers I should say. Now, let's take that red fondant and we'll
make Kitty's bow. So I'm just going to take, I guess, about the same size that you use
for both of those ears. Rip off just a little bit and roll that into a ball. Now I'm going
to turn it just with the middle of my finger into a bit of a, I guess, a peanut shape.
So you got 2 bulgy ends and that peanut in the middle.
With the back of my paintbrush, I'm just going to [hollow] out the middle. That's going to
give us the bases for the bow. And this is going to be our bow center so roll it into
a ball, into a little sausage-y shape. A little bit of water in the middle there. And slide
that on. So there you have Kitty's bow. And we'll just take a little bit of that water
and pop it just under the ear. Pop on the bow.
To finish our Hello Kitty cupcake off, we're going to put one, two, and three little dots
of water. And making sure to put the M down so Kitty doesn't have M in her eyes, just
rest those M&Ms on that little dot of water. You could also use melted chocolate just a
little tiny bit of melted chocolate if you want to. But the water generally does a pretty
good job. So there you have your gorgeous Hello Kitty
cupcakes -- really quite easy, very effective and sure to be a crowd pleaser. Thanks very
much for watching.
