[How old are you?]
25.
[How long have you been working here?]
It's been two years.
[Do you like your work?] [What do you like best about it?]
Yes, yes. I like that they treat us well, you know? They give us talks, for example,
on how we should do our jobs, on cleanliness, and all that. And for me, it's also good,
because I have a young son. I get up early, and come here. I take him to the park at eight, and then return.
In other words, they give you more time here, time to be at home, to take care of your child, and then you come and work.
[What hours do you work?]
Well it depends on each person. It depends on what you ask for. For example,
I ask for seven containers (of Brazil nuts) so that I can work until 9am. I get up early.
Sometimes you go from four in the afternoon until 8pm, which is the time to leave,
and the next day, those who want to get up early can do that, arrive at four in the morning.
I always come from five until seven-thirty in the morning.
And then I take my son to the garden. I give him his breakfast.
At 8:30am, I'm back again until 12, when I'm done. And then I leave.
There are some people who ask for more, for two barrels, three barrels. From when they get up in the morning, those women are here.
[Don't they get tired? Sitting all day?]
Yes. Sometimes it's necessity. Some of them have many children.
And sometimes they ask to work more. I only have one son, and I have my husband.
And he works, too--we both work.
[Does he work in the same field, in Brazil nuts?]
No, he works in a concession. He works preparing annual plans for a brazil nut concession
He works as a technician.
[And among the workshops that they've offered you with the Rainforest Alliance, which is the one that you've liked most, that has most interested you?]
Last year we didn't have these types of talks, presentations, for example.
Last year we worked like little animals, in a manner of speaking.
This year, the company has improved a lot. The engineer gave a presentation on how we should work --
that when we leave, we should remove the apron, the hat, wash our hands.
When we enter, we should wash our hands and disinfect them with alcohol...all of that.
When we start working, we need to wash all of the containers where we put the product so that it comes out in better condition.
Because sometimes, you know, the nuts have a fair amount of bacteria and all that.
Yes, I'm happy in this work.
