By 2020, over 80% of the world's population will live in -- or around -- cities.
God has a heart for the city!
As the son of an inner-city pastor growing up in New York City... I have a heart for
cities.
For 20 years, I served at the Bowery Mission, one of the Nation's oldest rescue missions
located on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. When our daughter left for college, my wife
Peggy and I decided to move into an apartment at the Bowery Mission and live with those
we served.
Recently, Peggy and I felt the call to move to Southwestern PA where Peggy grew up and
still has family. Family Guidance offered us the opportunity to serve Pittsburgh in
a way we love... on the front lines.
I've met with pastors, leaders and volunteers in some of the neighborhoods where Family
Guidance works -- Homewood, Northside, Aliquippa -- to name just a few, but as we all know
there are so many more neighborhoods where individuals and families struggle every day.
I am impressed with Family Guidance, its Mission and its Heart. Talking to Pittsburghers, I
find most know of Family Guidance, their great reputation and history, but few know the scope
of what the Family Guidance team strives to accomplish.
