Hi, Alexi here. Let's take an OptoMinute to discuss the differences between
Opto 22's SNAP PAC R1 and R2 controllers.
But first, the similarities: Both are rack-mounted programmable automation controllers.
Both serve as the control engine for your application, and both have an on-board I/O processor for
analog, digital, and serial I/O. Both support multiple industrial protocols like Modbus/TCP
and EtherNet/IP. The difference is that the R1 offers additional digital I/O features such as
high-speed counting, quadrature counting, and on- and off-pulse, frequency, and period measurement.
The specific feature set for both depends on the firmware version, so for the most
up-to-date data, search for Form 1677 on Opto22.com.
So, which one should you get? If you need the high-speed digital features,
or think you might in the future, go with the R1. Otherwise, the R2 is just as powerful and costs less.
Thanks for watching. See you next time!
