Hello, I’m Kumi Naidoo, the Executive Director of Greenpeace International.
I’m very much looking forward to participating in blog action day and being inspired by other people’s stories.
What I love about the internet is that it’s a vast repository for people’s creativity and expression.
I say that because we’re living in a time where people power is the only legitimate kind of power.
We are fundamentally all equal, and all deserve an equal say in our planet’s future,
and the internet is a great place in which to do that.
I think it’s critically important that we stand up to the few who would take away our choices,
and create a future that is right for us, and fair to future generations.
Over the years I’ve been inspired by many actions big and small, of countless people and organisations.
For instance, a recent example of people power that inspired me was the case of the super trawler that was scheduled to start fishing in Australian waters.
Thanks to the efforts of our local Greenpeace organisation, who presented the right information to people who made decisions,
we were able to force the government to rethink its position on allowing such vessels to fish in Australian waters.
But that’s only one story. Please share yours.
Let’s inspire each other to take power and share it with one another.
Sign up for blog action day by clicking the link at the end of this video,
and I look forward to blogging with you well into the future.
Thank you very much.
