go east 2010 conference
Personally, I am expecting a lot from this,
but I am also very anxious
that the bureaucratic machine of the European Union
will devour this project,
just like it has done with many others.
It is mainly connected to the problems of democracy,
human rights and civil liberties;
these are the principles upon which the European Union
and all European institutions were built.
These are the principles which our country needs a lot.
That is why, without solving these problems
in our countries, nothing will change.
I expect European Union to do anything
so that the main European values
such as democracy,
human rights and freedom of press
can emerge and operate in our countries.
For every family living peacefully
and without conflicts
is the most important thing.
When you have such neighbor,
you live peacefully.
And, this is what the normal
former Soviet states can give us.
Perhaps, having an open
and uncensored discussion
will result in our Polish colleagues
conveying it to the directors
of the European Partnership project.
I was glad to meet my colleague
Krzysztof Stanowski,
who holds such a high post in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
It makes me feel content,
because such people should be there.
It would be good if such people
were also in our countries;
they are capable of understanding us
and informing the leaders of the European Union
who supervise the bureaucratic machine
about what is really going on
here and what measures must be taken.
As for now,
I am not going to do anything;
I am a partner to other organizations from other countries
as a part of a particular project.
This is why I am not going to take
on more responsibilities.
Obviously, I would like to meet the management
to make clear what needs to be done,
and to tell them how I see this.
There are several problems
which need to be solved
before I agree to participate in this project,
before our organization agrees to do so.
There is a number of problems,
and I could point them out.
Our actions are focused on the human rights
monitoring in Armenia,
monitoring of the psychiatric hospitals,
prisons, courts;
we offer pro bono service in courts;
we also monitor situation of the human rights defenders.
Apart from this, our organization
is the Armenian coordinator on behalf
of the Soutlh Caucasus Network of Human Rights Defenders.
