Hi, this is Miranda Thacker with your KYTC Minute.
Your safety on Kentucky's roads is the Transportation Cabinet's top priority -- and the health of
all Kentuckians is important to us as well. So that's why we thought we'd take a detour
with this week's segment. March is National Colon Cancer Awareness Month. Colorectal cancer
is the second leading cancer killer in the United States, and Kentucky has the second
highest rate of colon cancer in the nation. At first, there are usually no symptoms of
colon cancer, so early screening and detection are important.
To raise awareness for colon cancer screening, the Transportation Cabinet is inviting you
to join us as we Dress in Blue for Colon Cancer Awareness -- Friday, March 7. And throughout
March, please encourage your family and friends to get screened for colon cancer -- particularly
if they're over 50. For more information on colon cancer, visit the National Cancer Institute's
Information Service at www.cancer.gov. With your KYTC Minute, I'm Miranda Thacker.
