Hi everyone, this is Gloomy Dungeons and
it's something
of a well,
as you can see
it's basically Wolfenstein
it's like a kickback or homage to
what really started first-person shooters. It's been done very nicely.
It's called Gloomy Dungeons and basically it's an over the top
sprite based shooter is the best way I can kind of describe it
that really draws on at the very best of Wolfenstein
and other games that came very early, well at the very start of
first person shooters and 3D graphics. If you know the story of the games
like Wolfenstein, Doom you know that they weren't actually 3D as such they used
a series of 2D planes that were very cleverly arranged to give this illusion of depth
they were absolutely groundbreaking at the time and to see it kind of brought back
when so many titles are trying to over do their 3D graphics at the expense of the gameplay element
and you know what makes a game fun is not necessarily having gorgeous
graphics but having lots and lots of things to shoot
and a challenge behind it. And this gets it right, it's an absolute cracker.
I've played some pretty atrocious shooters
with really great graphics and I've played some brilliant shooters with really really substandard
graphics and this one kind of falls in between that the graphics are retro as
retro as you can possibly get
but the game play is absolutely top-notch it really does evoke those memories of long nights
playing Wolfenstein and Doom with your mates all crowded round your PC
it's just brilliantly done and really well executed . I would certainly suggest go and
download this title. It's up on the Play Store and you will have loads of fun with it.
It does get quite difficult as you can see unlike when these games first
came out you wouldn't have a huge number of mobs on screen at any one time
certainly not until you get to the very later levels this one really throws things at you quite early on
if you get on to the second or third stages it really ups the ante.
But what a title and what a fantastic game. Now where's that blue door gone?
