Hey guys bring it in, huddle up! It's time for another HP Storage ChalkTalk
with HPStorageGuy Calvin Zito. A couple years ago HP Discover in Vienna
I met the guys at our HP AllianceOne Partner of the Year iTernity.
We have a very interesting long-term data retention solution with them that I
want to talk about on today's ChalkTalk. The solution is a combination
of HP StoreEasy Storage and an iTernity solution called
iCAS. At a high level, it drives a couple of important benefits:
It's secure - it supports
legally compliant archiving and has built-in archive monitoring, it
provides investment protection and low TCO,
and it supports multiple content sources with extensive ISV support.
It's highly available:
it support clustering for maximum availability,
protection from site failure with built-in replication and integrity
checks to make sure that
archive objects are always on on and correct
There are few ideal use cases for the solution:
Compliance for business applications; retention management
and WORM data storage and something I'll define as
software-defined storage for archiving. I want to show you a block diagram of
this solution. At the top level we start with your business applications
like
SAP, document management systems, PACS for healthcare organizations
and many more. The data is then passed on the iCAS layer.
It can be either a single server, a virtualized environment,
and even a cluster for high-availability. The iCAS software has
unique technology that iTernity calls Container Technology
and can provide encryption, compression,
easy migration, and simple backup. There is a lot of additional
archiving and retention features with iCAS like WORM (write once, read many),
defined retention period setting, replication,
self-healing and repair a broken objects. In my example
iCAS runs on the HP StoreEasy Gateway and this allows
you to use many different storage options behind HP StoreEasy
including HP Storage and even third party products.
For example, if you're looking at HP 3PAR or already have one, that can be a great
storage option to use with the StoreEasy gateway and the iCAS solution.
Lastly, I want to leave you with six reasons that HP and iCAS together form a
great archiving/retention solution: Investment protection:
HP and iTernity iCAS can be used with any storage hardware -
there's no vendor lock-in and it enables seamless migration between different
technologies.
It's scaleable: wherever you are in your journey
or wherever your journey takes you HP and iCAS provide
unrestricted growth up to petabyte range and can support you with your long-term
archival projects. It's secure:
With features for legally compliant,
certified archiving, HP and iCAS provide maximum data security
and proof of representation. Integration ready:
if required HP and iCAS can run in a virtual
or physical Windows configuration. It's simple and uncomplicated.
Economic: flexible and openness protect your investment and provide more
efficient usage of storage capacities.
Your total operating costs will fall. Its resource-friendly:
As a consolidated efficient archiving solution
HP and iCAS reduce energy consumption through compression and memory
And all of this and more means it's a solution that drives down TCO for long-term
data retention.
