in this video we're gonna show you exactly how to get access to the world's
largest personal training business website
built specifically for club based personal trainers
a single resource where you'll find all the tools you need to attract better clients
train your clients more often
and more effectively
and build a highly profitable
business and lifestyle your friends will envy
you'll also discover that personal training is on
the verge of exploding
as a mainstream health and fitness solution to over half the population
of the developed world
yep that is a bold statement
but when you look at the facts we think that you'll come to the same conclusion as
we did
that a massive opportunity exists
an opportunity that could quite realistically launch personal training
to the stratosphere
as single-most health positive
and influential profession
in the twenty first century
this opportunity is born out of a massive growing demand for solutions that
lead to a fitter
healthier
leaner and longer life
and a serious lack of personalised options that deliver long term results
but let's back up the bus for a minute
before we go any further there's something we need to tell you
this opportunity
might not be right for you
why? because you may not see things quite the same way as we do
you see, like any opportunity this one is not without it's challenges
in face it could completely pass us by
that's right
the way we see it personal training has four major challenges to overcome
and whether we overcome these challenges and seize this phenomenal
opportunity
as an industry and as a profession
will be largely determined by you
we'll tell you more about that later but for now let's have a good old
chat about where we're coming from
and what we're all about
so you can decide if we were on the same page here
so let's get started with some basics
like uhh i don't know, why on earth do we even exist
well it's quite simple really
as we mentioned before we're here because we've realized that personal
training
is on the verge of an incredible opportunity
stick with us and we'll tell you all about it
now just before we get started let's take a quick economics lesson together
economics 101
the more demand there is for something the more supply will eventuate
in other words the more people there are out there looking for solutions that
lead to a
healthier and longer life
the more people who provide or supply these solutions
will come out of the woodwork to meet the demand
so how many people do you think right now
might be thinking about losing weight
getting fitter
leaner
and planning to live a longer healthier life
what options will they be looking at
well if you asked a hundred of your facebook friends and they were honest with you
you'd probably find that fifty four of them had attended some kind of diet
in the last year or so
twenty of them would probably admit to having a scary looking piece of
exercise equipment folded up under their beds gathering dust
fifteen of them would soon be able to tell you about the times they'd been on
weight watchers, jenny craig or some other type of weight loss program
ten of them would be able to show you their fitness club membership cards according to research
from the international health raquet and sports club association
and finally only one out of a hundred of your facebook friends
wuold be telling you about the most enjoyable and long term successful solution they'd found
in the form of a personal trainer
so the million dollar question is
what if demand increases
another words what if more and more people out there are looking for
solutions that lead to a leaner
healthier
and longer life
what would the supply of people who provide the solutions need to do
to meet this growing demand
and then what if more and more people wanted lasting results
delivered in a
customized and enjoyable way
you guessed it
the more people there are looking for a solution the more people will eventually
show up to provide that solution
so is the demand for personal training growing
or shrinking
are we seeing an increase the number of people wanting to live
leaner healthier and loner lives or is that number decreasing
well we've got some good news and bad news
let's roll with the good news fist
we're coming to a time in history of unprecedented demand for solutions that
lead to a lead to a leaner healthier and longer life
we're going to take a look at some statistics from the world health
organization to show you
why we believe this to be true
and by the way
this is the bad news
the following is what we call sick
old and chunky equation and it goes a little something like this
wealthier populations
plus less activity
plus more sugar
plus more fat
equals more obesity
wealthier populations
plus more disease earlier in life
plus more medical care
equals living longer
add these together
and you get more people
needing more personal training
more often
but let's make this a little more real
let's take a look at some of the world health organization numbers
to give you a tangible feeling about this phenomenon
first up we'll take a look at some obesity stats
worldwide obesity has more than doubled since 1980
in 2008 1.5 billion adults aged twenty and older
were over weight
of these over 200 million men and nearly 300 million
women were obese
and nearly forty three million children under the age of 5 were overweight
in 2010
wow they are some heavy statistics forgive the pun
and we think that you look agree that based on these statistics alone that the world's
population is getting heavier and heavier as time goes on
so let's take a look at inactivity by globally around 51%
of adults
yep that that's almost one third
aged fifteen and over were inactive in 2008
that figure jumps to a whopping 43% if you look at just these
three developed countries USA
UK and Japan
not convinced
didn't seee your country mentioned
ok so let's say you're in what we'd call a reasonably wealthy country
high income countries had over twice the level of inactivity compared with
low-income countries
for both men and women
in fact here's the actual numbers
41% percent of men and 48% of a women were inactive in
high income countries
compared with 18% of men and and 21% of women
in low-income countries.. and for any of you trainers out there looking to train
women
great news.. nearly every second woman in high income countries was inactive
in 2008
alright so remember the equation
so far we've establish the chunky part
and I'm sure that you'll agree that these staggering statistics
point to a massive growing demand
for solutions that lead to a leaner
healthier life
are you with me so far
good, stick with me
we'll take a look at life expectancy next
since 1990 life expectancy on average has gone up by four years
now four years doesn't sound like very much but think about it like this
for every 5 years that passes life expectancy goes up by one year
at this rate living to age one hundred, which today is quite a milestone
will be commonplace for your grandchildren's generation
just imagine it someday your grandchildren will be getting together with all their
ninety something and one hundred and something friends and partying on down
into triple figures, hard to believe but that's where we're heading
and wouldn't you just love to feel like this during your golden years
sorry couldn't resist
ok, moving right along
that's the old part of the equation
now we'll take a look at illness
17.3 million people died from cardiovascular disease
in 2008
this is projected to rise to 23.6 million in
2030
that's an increase of around 25%
or 6.3 million people
to make this a little more real for those of you watching in the united
states that 25% equates to every man woman and child in
the metropolitan area of dallas texas
for those of you watching in the UK it equates to every man woman and child
in the cities of Edinburgh Glasgow Leeds Sheffield Liverpool and
Birmingham
and for those you down in the southern hemisphere South Africa, Australia and
New Zealand it equates to every man woman and child in the cities of
Bloemfontein Sydney had Auckland
ok, so that's the sick part of the equation
once again some quite staggering statistics
i think we can all agree that there are a lot of people out there in need
of our assistance
so let's have a quick recap of the sick
old and chunky equation
the world's population continues to spiral into inactivity
there are significant changes in food consumption habits
more fat and more sugar being the main ones
obesity is up
like way up
and people getting sick sooner but medicine is having them live longer
we're coming to a time when there should logically be more people
exercising more often
under the supervision and guidance of personal trainer
by more we mean millions more
so that's the demand side of the equation
a lot of people needing solutions that lead to a leaner
healthier and longer life
but what we currently have out here in the way of solutions or supply to meet
this demand
well there's a raft of farcical options like the latest hips buns and thighs blaster
or the lightest celebrity endorsed celery lettuce and water diet
but there is no credible holistic personalized and fully supported health
and fitness solution delivering lasting results other than personal training
and when it comes to finding a health and fitness solution that has a scientific
basis and is adapted and customized to the clients wants and needs at an
individual level
nothing even comes close to personal training
so it's a foregone conclusion right
a no brainer
big demand
limited supply
all of the personal trainers in the world get busy
build strong businesses an enviable lifestyles
with ease
right.. wrong
here's the news my friend
when you take a good look at this situation you realize that were on the
verge of an unbelievable opportunity
that could quite realistically pass us by
that's right
despite unprecedented demand
limited supply and no real competition
we could miss this opportunity
and worse, become an over-rated B-grade and obsolete health and ftness
solution in the mind of the mainstream customer
"how" i hear you ask
well the way we see it there are currently four major challenges in front of us
the value challenge
the disconnection challenge
the information challenge in the media representation challenge
all hugely affect the general publics perception of what personal training is
all about
and therefore their willingness to even consider it as a health and fitness
solution
the first challenge is the value challenge
we're often failing to deliver true value and compete in the
transformation economy
let me explain
back in the year 2000 a bunch of really really clever folk
economists they called themselves
began to write about the experience economy
which basically shows that Joe Public's spending shifting away from buying
basic goods and services
like tv's and cable tv channels
to experiences transformations
so people willing to spend much more going to see their favorite band live in concert
than they were on say
watching the same concert live on pay-per-view tv
going to the concert being a desirable and memorable experience
came with a much bigger spend
whereas watching the same concert on tv
fell in the goods and services category and came with a smaller spend
goods and services being things that you can buy from
from many supliers that aren't really customized to your personal
preferences in any way
here's the continuum our clever economists from harvard came up with in their book
The Experience Economy
so what's the problem
aren't we a group of professionals designing customized exercise
experiences
in order to transform our customers
well yes
but more often than not these days
no
you see we've moved over the last five years or so
from truly personal training
more and more group, small group and what we called themed training
where a mode or type of exercise is promoted as the main attraction
rather than the personalization of the experience
now don't get us wrong, there's room for all of these types of exercise however they are not
the defining activitiy of personal training
bootcamps, crossfit, boxing classes and outdoor curcuits are all valid types of
exercise but they do dirty the water the purest offering our
profession has
that is a personalized exercise plan
that includes customized nutrition and selected progressive training
what we are currently seeing is a watering down of our purest
offering
from a truly personal experience that transforms our clients
to a mere service, or worse, a simple run-of-the-mill product
we're confusing our future customers by promoting services and products rather
than experiences transformations
with failing to be aspirational and inspirational around our very reason for
existing
even more disturbing is how we sometimes link a generic
run-of-the-mill product to a transformational result
for example
join our fitness boot camp and transform yourself and twenty one days or less
this is simply not believable especially for the inactive, aging and skeptical
mainstream customer who is waiting in the wings to be moved to action by our best
offerings
so that's the value challenge
the second challenge we face is the disconnection challenge
we are a very young industry without a universal and collective view
of what we should look like to the potential masses of new customers coming our
way
or possibly not coming our way
young and growing industries always suffer this problem
but our challenge is even larger
as majority of us with independently using our own brand or name
to promote ourselves
we act in similar ways but we're often fighting to be recognized as different
from the personal trainer next to us
this fragmentation within a young industry only magnifies the confusion
within out potential customers
and because we're not connected we fail to clearly and collectively state who we
are
why we exist
how we do our work and what we can create
for the majority of customers to engage in any product servive or solution
willingly
they must trust the reason for its existence and have proof of it's acceptance
by the market that goes before them
here we need to understand that there is unknown and predictable pattern
to how a market
or group of potential customers
accepts and adopts any new product service or solution
the diffusion of ideas model shows that a market
or group of potential customers
consists of five adopter categories
we have the innovators making up two and a half percent of a market
we have the early adopters making up thirteen and a half percent of a
market
we have the early majority making up thirty four percent of a market
the late majority also make up thirty four percent
and the laggards round out a market at sixteen percent
we're going to take a look at the innovators first
innovators are the very first customers to adopt a new product, service or
solution
they are first in line and will simply try something because looks new and
exciting
innovators are opinion leaders
risk-takers
are generally well-educated and socially well-connected
and are willing and able to spend a lot of money on on new offerings with their
disposable income
it's the innovators that you see queing outside their local Apple store over night
in the cold and rain waiting to be one of the very first to get their hot
little hands on the latest iphone
early adopters leap in and adopt a new product service or solution
once the advantages and benefits start become apparent
the fashion conscious trend setting early adopters share much the same
characteristics as the innovators, love having an advantage over their peers and will have
the latest iphone in their hot little hands just as soon as some positive
reviews start trickling through from the innovators
the early majority watch the early adopters to see if they succeed or failed with the
new offering
the more they succeed the more likely that offering will be adopted by the
early majority
the early majority a practical minded folk and will only adopt a new product, service
or solution
with solid proof but it's acceptance advantages and benefits
they are followers
that are influenced by mainstream fashions and trends
established by the innovators and early adopters
they're awry of fads
and want to hear things like industry standard
widely accepted
no hassle
user-friendly
and value for money
the early majority are price sensitive and uncomfortable with risk compared to
the innovators and early adopters
they're looking for simple proven better wise of doing things
they require guaranteed results
minimum disruption
minimum time commitment, minimum learning
and they hate complexity
the early majority will flock to the retail outlets to get their piece of
the iphone action
but only after the early adopters have convinced them of the advantages and
benefits
the late majority are conservative sceptical
practical minded folk who hate risk and are uncomfortable with a new product
service or solution, they respond to peer pressure and are driven mainly by their fear
of not fitting in
so they will eventually adopt mainstream fasions, teends and established
norms
man everyone's got one of these iphone gadgets these days and the sound
like they're the real deal, I might be missing missing out
they've come down in price and are much better now than they were a few years ago, I better
get in on the action
and finally the suspicious, skeptical traditional minded laggards
will hold out to the bitter end
they see high risk in adopting a new product, service or solution
and are more interested in maintaining the status quo
the laggard may eventually and begrudgingly adopt a new offering, but only if
the status quo and all other alternatives are significantly worse
currently personal training is only attracting innovators and early adopters
a maximum of sixteen percent market penetration
our challenge in this sense is to get connected
project our reasons for existing collectively and consistently
and work towards this tipping point
where the number of people using a personal trainer to their advantage
will quite simply explode
there will be more than enough business for everyone
and the differentiation in our roles will begin at that point
afterall every phase brings with it a need for new industry leaders
the third challenge we face is the information challenge
the information age is killing the we know more than the customer so we can
charge them for our knowledge approach
the qualification you have and the knowledge and skills you gleaned from your studies
and training is becoming more and more accessable to Joe Public
and as such, less and less valuable
even though we understand a lot more each year the do-it-yourself approach is
rampant in fitness
and fueled by information
or misinformation
primarily available through the internet
the most valuable assett we have now that you can't find on the internet in a fraction of
a second
is our ability to engage with our clients on a personal level
investigate the challenges they have around living well
and to deliver a customized, effective and enjoyable solution with lasting results
it takes practice and reflection to develop the knowledge and skills required to do this and as
such, the internet will never be able to compete with personal training on this
level
so, our only defence against the information age is to develop the
knowledge and skills
that allow us to transform our clients
we quite simply need to be the recognized experts at
helping people transform their lives
from unhappy
unhealthy inactive living
to happy
healthy and invigorated living
and the fourth challenge we face is the media representation challenge
our outward presentation in the mainstream media is horrific and is working against
us
that's right
the super sexy
shout a lot
train til you vomit tv portrayal of a personal trainer
is hugely off putting to the very people we need
to take personal training mainstream
the early majority
this representation of personal training is fine for the innovators and early
adopters
who are opinion leaders and will try a new products just because it looks new and
exciting
but this hard ***
hardcore drill sergeant representation
sends shivers down the spines of the early majority
we don't know how to stop this but we do know that the sooner we counter it
by presenting a different side of personal training
the better
good tv does not make for good promotion of personal training
ok there we have it
four major challenges to overcome in order to hit the bigtime and take personal
training to the masses
depressed yet
sorry about that, but just relax for a moment
chill out
take a breath
we have some outstanding news
but first
let's have a recap
we have a massive opportunity created by a massive developing demand
limited competition
and scant supply
however this opportunity could quite realistically pass us by
due to our disjointedness
lack of collective behavoiur
the information age
and our most publicized members
the future therefore can be one of two things
created or adopted
now this is where you come in
we, as in all of us personal trainer folk
can either create what we need to make personal training the single most
health positive an influential profession in the twenty-first century
or we can simply sit back
do nothing, adopt the status quo and let it run it's natural course
by the way if you like the course our profession is taking after watching
this so far
it might be time for us to confirm that we're not on the same page here
after all
so create
or adopt
what's it gonna be
uh...
create of course
ok, so now that we've agreed on that
how do you create a solution to the four major challenges
well let's be honest
for the first few years he simply stare down the barrel and scratch your head in
frustration
until somehow for some reason
you lucky enough to get a group of the right people at the right time
together in the same room with the same vision of taking personal training
mainstream
in our room we had a life long educator
couple of experienced successful personal trainers, a couple personal training managers
a fitness club owner or two
a qualifications developer
they write certification standards at a government level.. and an entrepreneur
after five exausitve days of collating reseach data, information
and ideas
pulling together decades of collective industry experience
brainstorming, debating
agreeing
disagreeing, agreeing again, blood sweat and tears
actually there was no blood and only minimal sweat and minimal tears
Steve didn't cry that much, honestly he just had something in his eye
