Welcome to This Week @Minnesota.
U of M students from around the state gathered
at the state capital Tuesday for a Rally to Restore Affordability
and to advocate for the U in the face of potential budget cuts.
Governor Mark Dayton, President Bruininks,
and student government leaders were among the speakers
at the rally which was followed
by Bruininks's testimony before the house, higher education,
and finance committee.
For several years now we have warned of a future tipping point
in which we would no longer be able to sustain deep cuts
and remain the university our state expects
and our state deserves.
I think that tipping point has arrived or it's very close.
The fifth ranked Gopher wrestling team hosted their arch
rivals and the two-time national champion Iowa Hawkeyes Sunday,
February 20 at Williams Arena.
Gopher alumni and fans recognized long time head coach
Jay Robinson before the meet for his 25 years
of service to the program.
A crowd of over 7,500 braved a blizzard
to watch the Gophers claw back from a 13-3 deficit and pull
within one before eventually falling 19-12 to the Hawkeyes.
The second annual U of M Campus Snowball Fight took place
at Northrop Mall Friday afternoon
with students taking a break from classes to join in the fun.
The event was organized entirely through Facebook
and even featured a surprise appearance by Goldy Gopher.
