Hi, my name is Dani Nicholson and I oversee the operations of the Pacific
Wildlife Care Center in Morro Bay where we rescue and rehabilitate injured,
orphaned and sick wildlife.
For over twenty five years Pacific Wildlife Care has been the first
responder for wildlife in San Luis Obispo county and the community educator
County Animal Services, Harbor Patrol
State Parks, Police, County Sheriff's Departments and Animal Shelters all rely
on PWC to rescue injured, sick and orphaned wildlife.
Anyone can call 543-WILD for reassurance,
answers to wildlife questions,
help with rescue
and advice for living compatibility with local wildlife
and we're the only organization in the county providing these services.
Through our educational outreach program we teach young and old alike to value
and respect wildlife and the environment we share with them.
Our wildlife rehabilitation center in Morro Bay
is a refuge for orphaned and injured wildlife.
Human activity has had a negative impact on many of the animals that are brought
to the center.
We see grebes and pelicans covered in oil,
birds and mammals hit by automobiles,
seabirds entangled by fishing line pure or pierced by fishing hooks,
hawks caught in barbed wire fences
maimed by gunshots or electrocuted,
mammal babies orphaned by trapped parents
and the list goes on
the PWC rehab center takes them all in
treats them all humanely and volunteers work tirelessly to try and return all of
them back to their native habitat in the wild
our onsite rehabilitators
are highly skilled professionals with many years of experience and training
they make sure every animal at the center receives a complete physical exam
and treatment plan
adequate amounts of fluids and nourishment appropriate to the species
proper housing and caging,
follow-up care and pre-release conditioning.
Over the past three years
The PWC has cared for more than four thousand animals
we provide life-saving medications
veterinary services
and supportive care costing over sixty thousand dollars annually
volunteers donate over twenty thousand hours of their time each year
it's no secret that our economy has dealt a blow to non-profits and money
for charities is extremely scarce.
Unfortunately there is no scarcity of injured an orphaned wildlife in our
County.
The number of animals brought to the center continues to increase while
donations have decreased by fifty percent.
At this time I reach out to you with an urgent request for your support.
Pacific Wildlife Care depends
upon your tax-deductible donations
to continue this life-saving work.
Forward this video to your friend,s family and neighbors
and remind them that Pacific Wildlife Care is the only organization in our county
rescuing
and rehabilitating our native wildlife. Thank you.
