Making sure everyone goes home safely is a priority at the Blue Grass Chemical Agent-
Destruction Pilot Plant. Electrician Kevin Kazunas explains the importance of safety
inspections, "Well, the safety inspections are important on the site so we can find out where
the troubles are." Here, Bechtel safety manager, Roger Thompson, takes us for a first hand
look at a safety inspection. "The thing that we do, we do these once a month. It's called
a life critical inspection walk down. We try to focus on things that are life critical
on this checklist I handed out. We'll pick up anything we see. I'll make notes as we
get together at the end and gotta do a hot wash to make sure we've captured everything."
"If we do find a safety issue, we either--on most of the walk throughs we have craft with
us and they take care of it right then or if not we find someone to take care of it.
If it's something that can effect something later on, we'll close down the area until
we do resolve it. We don't want anybody hurt for any reason, so we always try to take care
of it as soon as possible." Beyond safety inspections, the Bechtel Parsons Blue Grass Team and ACWA
safety engineer, Sunday Street, collaborate on safety initiatives. "Our partnership yields
success on many different levels. I regularly perform site walk downs, and from these site
walks downs I am able to gather thoughts and considerations that I share with our systems
contractor in the spirit of safety." To learn more about the Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction
