The story behind a scientific discovery is like a crime thriller. It begins with an unexpected
discovery, and a team of experts are brought in to investigate. The experts ask questions,
perform experiments, taking guesses and making mistakes. Eventually, hopefully, they end
up at the right answer. Sometimes, they get it wrong.
Nobody would buy a crime novel just to read the last 3 pages. But that is invariably the
way we approach science news; just hearing about the experts with the answer.
We're putting together an interactive website that will allow users to explore all the questions
that science hasn't got the answers to. We'll explain all the things we don't know, how
we know we don't know them, and why we don't have the answer already. We'll do this in
simple language, with no jargon, maths or equations.
As a user, you will be able to select the questions and topics that interest you, and
follow stories from beginning to end with our updates and links. Finally, you will be
able to help choose which questions you want scientists to answer, by crowdfunding research
into those questions directly through our site.
