(English) Salma Tarzi,: "Anything from grabbing to ripping of clothes. And some of them have

(Swedish) : "It happens - all of a sudden. A woman is surrounded by a mob of men. They
get together in a common "attack". During the latest months there have been a large
number of harassments. But those fighting against harassments have also increased in
number. Salma Tarzi is one of 100 volunteers at the Tahrir Square."
(English) Salma Tarzi, Opantish: "In the past couple of months when we had big demonstrations,
we had very severe and aggressive attacks.And our goal today is to try to stop the harrassment
before it happens."
(Arabic) Asma Gamal, demonstrator: "I am against corruption. Since Mursi gained power everything
that was beautiful has disappeared."
(Arabic) Ines Sheltout, demonstrator: "*** harassments can prevent people from demonstrating
and prevent women and young people from taking part in the demonstrations."
STAND-UP (Swedish) Stina Blombren, SVT correspondent: "Salma and her group consist of more than
100 volunteers atTahrir Square. A collective effort to ensure safety in Cairo - especially
for women. A person observing someone being threatened has the possiblity to phone for
volunteers who immediately are ready to act. "
(English) Salma Tarzi, Opantish: "We have interference groups that are distributed around
the square, so they direct the closest group to the place of the harrassment, they interfere,
and then we ask people to take care of the woman that has been assaulted afterwards,
and see if she needs clothes if she was ***, if she needs a hospital, if she needs a safehouse.
We follow her until she is safe."
(Swedish): "During the revolution the military made "virginity tests" on women who were arrested.
Therefore people today regard the authorities as being part of an organized attack on women
since both the timing and location of the attacks are usually the same. It is said that
criminals are being paid in order to disturb the demonstrations."
(English) Salma Tarzi: "It's not by coincidence that the square is full of people from 2p.m.
until 2 a.m and that the attacks happen simultaneously within the same two hours every single Friday.
So it can't be random."
(English) Nawal el Saadawi: "Women are half of society, and there is a backlash against
women. In all areas you know. Backlash. So we have to fight back."
(Swedish): "Hagar Helmy is volunteer and has been harassed herself. She decided afterwards
to take part in the opposition against violence."
SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Hagar Helmy, Tahrir Bodyguards: "There are many men using many bad words.
All of a sudden you get hit or pushed and that is really annoying."
(Swedish) : "The sun sets and the demonstration continues, but the evening doesn´t end in
the way the volunteers hoped for. There are 25 women who were harassed. Women got their
clothes ripped off and one was ***."
(English) Salma Tarzi: "It is not acceptable that any gender or race or religion or anything
would be excluded from work and would be attacked specifically because of their gender, or race,
or religion. As a person this is one of my priorities, and this why to begin with as
a person I wanted to have a revolution: to have this type of freedom and this type of
equality."
