NARRATOR: The 24th National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic kicked off this week
as hundreds of Veterans with disabilities arrived in picturesque Snowmass Village, Colorado.
The Veterans’ first stop is participant registration, where they will learn more about
the adaptive sports and recreational activities they will take on throughout the week. After
registration, everyone had a chance to try a “Taste of Snowmass,” when area restaurants
set up outside offering up delectable dishes sure to please anyone’s taste buds.
The first day came to a close with opening ceremonies,
[BARRY MICHAEL SINGING] A super charged welcome event where the Secretary
of Veterans Affairs, Eric Shinseki, and Disabled American Veterans National Commander, Roberto
Barrera offered their words of encouragement. ERIC SHINSEKI, SECRETARY OF VETERANS AFFAIRS:
"I hope you all are excited about the experiences and challenges that lie ahead of you this
week as we are." ROBERTO BARRERA, DISABLED AMERICAN VETERANS
NATIONAL COMMANDER: "Seeing you here tonight is heart warming. Knowing that you're getting
the best tools to overcome any obstacles in your life, to overcome those challenges that
you face gives us hope that your future will hold every possibility for that new life."
NARRATOR: The excitement begins in the morning when the Veterans hit the slopes, or get their
first chance try out one of many alternate activities.
For the Department of Veterans Affairs, I’m Anthony Hardman.
