British Red Cross have launched an emergency appeal
for the Pakistan floods crisis.
Our sources are telling us that this is the worst flooding to affect Pakistan
for at least 80 years.
We're looking at in excess of a million people directly affected
by this, what has become a crisis.
From the 21st of July we've seen incredible high volumes of rain
in Pakistan across really a very large area
affecting an enormous number of people
and we're very concerned about the needs
that those people are going to have.
And we're particularly worried about the potential spread
of an epidemic or contagious disease
that can follow in the aftermath of such terrible flooding
as we're seeing in Pakistan right now.
The situation as we're seeing it
is that people have lost their homes, crops,
their animals have been washed away.
We're looking at entire villages
cut-off from assistance.
We are desperately trying to reach those people
and provide them with the assistance they need.
Our assessment teams are on the ground right now
working out the full extent of this particular disaster
and it's fair to say that the picture is still emerging
and will continue to emerge over the coming days.
The initial needs that we are seeing are for emergency temporary shelter,
for clean water, for food, for some emergency medical care
and assistance as well.
We have regionally positioned emergency relief items that we
are ready to mobilise and deliver into the affected area
so that we can support the efforts to reach those on the ground that need it.
With your support we can do much more.
