Independent Union vs Boss' Union
It's obvious that...
Conti would like to collective labor bargaining
to be like businesses that have opened
like Contitech, Contitemic
or others that have opened, where their would be a protective union
Because a protective union would allow most of the workers to be exploited
violate their rights without any problem
We are the only union that Conti has here
which really is a workers' union
Conti came to Mexico
taking advantage of the Free Labor Agreement
bought two plants -- the plant in Euzkadi and the plant in San Luis Potosi in 1998
Immediately they bought it
they began the first aggression towards the workers
For the company it's better
because those hits had been given gradually
because before us others had been laid off
They set out the union in General Tire just like in Euzkadi
where they would have had to accept making Sunday a work day
The company then managed to break the union representatives
off from our organization
and signed a labor substitution that makes the company a service industry ....
From there came an internal conflict in the union
the workers claimed our leadership came from that
and it got to the point where the directive leaders were replaced
And there was intervention from the company so that there would not be recognition of the new union
elected by the workers
The union in Euzkadi did not accept changing Sunday to a workday
and this caused the plant to be closed two years later
One day later
we had a general assembly in the sports field that we have
And there we decided, unanamously to reject...
the closing of the plant because it violated our workers' rights
We are a democratic, independent union
and our leaders, even with the deficiencies that they could have had
were always honest leaders
They raised anew in San Luis Potosi an update to the contract
Because the workers are the ones who make the decisions
they are not made by one solo person
they are made by us, all the workers
Following the union's departure from the CTM to deal
with this policy of Conti's
we decided to reform the statutes
and in this reform is the provision provision that no trade union shall be lawful
for a convention that has not passed by the general assembly for approval
As long as the unions are not democratic
things are not going to change. In other words...
the workers should understand that one of the reasons
we have low salaries and bad working conditions
is because those who represent us are not representing our own interests
instead they are reprsenting their own interests...
that are not of the working class
