W: Thanks For joining us for this XTA datasheet live edition on the DC1048.
W: Think of it as two sides of A4 and about 3 minutes reading, so let's get started. What is a 1048 Rich?
R: It's a 4 input, 8 output audio processor, designed specifically for installation purposes.
R: It can be used as a distribution system with matrix mixing, for example, or as a full
loudspeaker management system with crossover filtering, cabinet eq, alignment delays and
our renowned limiters. Or anything in between: it's very flexible.
W: OK that all sounds good, but it also sounds very much like a DP448, without the controls on the front...
R: In signal processing terms, it is quite like a DP448, but there the similarity ends.
We have included a lot of features to make it work for an installer.
W: Well let's just get out of the way the things that make it different from a DP448.
R: OK, so you lose the graphic EQs on the inputs, input delays and the digital IO, but
you gain matrix mixing of the inputs to the outputs. All the other EQ, delays and limiters are the same.
W: That's cool. Well I can already see that it's fitted with Phoenix connectors across
the board, which makes it unique for an XTA product, and will win it friends immediately with installers.
R: That's right - you even get the plugs supplied in the box!
W: I also see there's a USB connector on the front panel; another XTA first!
R: Absolutely! You can program the 1048 via this USB socket, or via the RS485 on the rear panel.
The 1048 will also convert USB to RS485 for connection to other XTA processors.
W: I can see that the front panel controls have been deliberately minimised to prevent
unwanted tampering, but what can you do from the panel?
R: You can recall presets from the front panel, but this can be disabled if required. Three
quick access buttons take you straight to the comms, general purpose interface and system settings.
R: Partial and full front panel lock is available in the system menu.
W: So how do you actually program presets for the unit? Is it using AudioCore?
R: No. We have a different installation friendly software package called iCore that is free to download from our website.
R: It allows you to completely configure a network of 1048s (and all our other units) and also set up features such as custom software control panels and timed presets.
W: I was going to ask about the timed presets. I noticed the clock and date on the LCD; this is only 1048 for XTA, isn't it?
R: Yes, it is. You can recall presets based on time of the day and day of the week, or one shot events.
R: Presets recall silently - for instance if staying friends with your neighbours and the local authorities means
you need to cut the bass and limiters at 2AM and have silence at 3AM, the 1048 can do this for you.
W: That is good, especially as it can be automatic and out of harm's way. Are there other ways to trigger preset recalls?
R: Yes of course. There's a opto-isolated port on the rear panel that can be configured
to recall up to 16 presets via contact closure, and these recalls can be transmitted automatically
to other connected 1048s or 4 Series.
W: Using the RS485?
R: That's right. There is also built in support via the RS485 for level trim control and preset
recalls using a simple protocol, compatible with Crestron systems and Ikon wall panels.
W: How does that work?
R: Well, for example, we could set up four buttons on this panel to recall four presets
and also have two sets of gain up/down controls that can adjust one or more outputs, maintaining
their relative levels, or just have four zones of level control.
W: So maybe, your bar area stereo feed on one set of buttons and the restaurant / dancefloor / foyer on the others?
R: Exactly that sort of thing. And because the messages can be sent across the RS485 network,
control doesn't have to be limited to a single unit; multiple units can be controlled at the same time.
W: Cool. And finally, is there anything else we should know before we rush out and upgrade our club to the XTA sound?
R: Well, the lights fade up and down when you press a button or access the unit remotely...
W: You know I like a nice bit of illumination Rich, so show me.
R: Certainly!
W: That's very elegant! Thanks for watching this XTA datasheet Live edition on the DC1048!
