Hi, this is Francisco Cales from Tampa, FL with Pool Inspectors in behalf of Expert Village.
Our theme today is basic spa maintenance. At this time we are going to use a tailored
test kit to test the total alkalinity in the spa. In the tailored test kit when you open
it up, you?re going to see that each different phase of each test is indicated by the color
code. We are going to go ahead and take our valve out and follow instructions on the green
label. Use the large cylinder and fill it up to approximately 25 ml. Once we get it
to 25 ml, we will go ahead and use our first agent and add two drops of R007. Following
the instructions, we are going to go ahead and add five drops of R008. Mix it up a little
bit.
At this time we are going to take sulfuric acid which is R009 and add drops until the
color changes which at this moment is a light green to a pinkish redish color. I have added
eight drops and I am going to mix it up to dissolve it and I am just about there. If
you see any green in your 25 ml of color you need to add another drop. Mix it up and all
the green is gone. At this point I can read my total alkalinity of about 90. I added 9
drops of sulfuric acid to be able to read that.
