Hello. My name is Susan Pascoe, and I'm the Commissioner
at the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission.
It's my great pleasure to present to you
the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission's first Annual Report.
This report covers our major projects
and achievements during the first seven months
of the ACNC's operation.
up to the 30th of June 2013.
In this short time, 700 new charities right across Australia
have registered with us.
Charities strengthen our democracy, care for the vulnerable amongst us,
protect the environment, educate our children,
promote good health and enable Australians of diverse religions
to practice their faith.
The ACNC strives to be a supportive, accessible and responsive regulator
that helps charities meet their obligations as easily as possible
so they can focus on their vital work.
This report covers our major milestones to date, including the launch
of the ACNC Register - Australia's first free,
searchable online database of all registered charities;
also (the report covers) our research,
and the work we've done to reduce red tape.
Throughout the financial year, we had many opportunities to work with
and collaborate with
Commonwealth, state and territory government agencies,
charities, peak bodies and the community.
On behalf of the ACNC, I thank you all for your valuable guidance,
contributions and ideas in our first year.
We look forward to working with you in the future.
