I care for my husband and initially in the beginning I found he was getting extremely
forgetful for instance leaving taps on in the bathroom not knowing what day it was etc
and I thought this is not right he hasn't been like that before so I rang the GP and
the GP came with a nurse and a specialist worker and they chatted to him and things
moved on from there and then he was diagnosed with Vascular dementia at Charing Cross hospital.
You chat about what's going on and you think oh yes my husband does that and it's good
to share, good to share with other carers. Particularly for me I was rather muddled about
the powers of attorney and the various options that are open at the moment we have a joint
bank account and you know building society and so on but if my husband can't give a signature
it could prove difficult so by having power of attorney I can sign on his behalf so that
was clarified for me which was good. You do get emotional support talking you know to
the other carers and you think ah they're going through the same thing that I am going
through. The support of Lloyds is absolutely vital for ongoing work not only at St Vincent's
but other centres too so we value what they are doing yeah it's been a life saver for me.
