They say that Molla Nasreddin had married,
taken a wife for whom he couldn't be a good husband.
The Molla's wife wanted clothing, shows, bread, food,
and wanted to go have a good time outdoors.
But Molla could never provide for her because he had no money at all.
And so life for his wife became very hard, austere.
One night she said to her husband,
"Mr Molla, I am human too. Do you think that a person can be satisfied just with air?"
Molla answered her, "I am not successful in business
or earning enough money to make your dreams come true.
Every night when his wife asked for bread,
instead of giving her anything, Molla would beat her up instead.
Finally the neighbors got together with Molla's wife
and went to the judge.
The judge asked Molla, "Mr. Molla, seeing that you do nothing for your poor wife, why do you also beat her?"
Molla said, "Your Excellency, I have the skin of a sheep's tail, with which I make my mustache greasy. But I cannot be at the service of my wife.
If I don't at least beat her every night, how would it be known that I am her husband?"
