Hi Guys. So now that Nokia has announced their latest
flagship smartphone, the Lumia 920, running Windows Phone 8,
I want to take a quick look at how it improves on the previous model, the Lumia 900.
At a glance, the 920 looks very similar to the 900.
There's the same polycarbonate chassis, But this time there's some bright colours
added to the line-up, Especially that eye-catching yellow.
It does make it look a little bit plastic-shiny and toy like,
So I am looking forward to holding it for real,
and seeing if its managed to keep a premium feel.
But from what I have seen so far, The design looks well thought out.
I especially liked how the display seems to curve gently into the chassis.
The display's been increased in size, as expected. It's now 4.5 inch compared to the previous
4.3 inch. So because of this the 920 is slightly larger
than the 900, And also heavier, 185 grams compared to 160
grams.
With the 920, Nokia have moved from AMOLED to an LCD screen.
It's an IPS LCD, with what Nokia have termed PureMotion HD+ (plus).
This comes with a better than HD resolution, and a fast refresh rate.
The resolution of this display is 1280 x 768, Which is a huge step forward from the 800
x 480 resolution of the Lumia 900. The pixel density is 332 ppi, slightly more
than the 330 ppi of Samsung's upcoming ATIV S,
And more than the 306 ppi of the Galaxy S3. Nokia have also said that it's their brightest
display to date. It's also one of the most sensitive.
Its Super Sensitive Touch technology means you can use the screen even when wearing gloves.
That could be really handy in winter.
The internals have been ramped up in the Lumia 920.
It has a dual-core processor now, A battery friendly, 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4.
RAM and storage have been doubled compared to the 900,
The 920 has 1 GB RAM and 32 GB of internal storage.
There doesn't seem to be any microSD card support though.
Of course, the new OS is a main feature. The Lumia 920 runs Windows Phone 8,
And the focus is on giving a very personal experience.
So you've got the hubs and resizable tiles, And new things like taking screenshots.
It will be interesting to see how well Windows Phone 8 integrates with the desktop version.
There's a lot of new camera apps in Windows Phone 8 as well.
Different lens applications that let you create things like animated photos.
Nokia have also brought PureView features to the Lumia 920.
But the major improvement for the 8 megapixel camera is optical image stabilisation.
It also records 1080p video. The front camera is 1.3 megapixels,
And records 720p video.
There are big changes in connectivity with the Lumia 920.
It has 4G capability, And integrated NFC.
It also has integrated QI standard wireless charging.
So even though it has a large 2000 mAh battery, You will be able to top-up on the go.
Nokia have several accessories coming out that make use of wireless charging and NFC
on the phone.
The second phone in line to the Lumia 920 is the new Lumia 820.
It's a slightly smaller 4.3 inch display phone, with 800 x 480 resolution.
It has the same snapdragon dual-core processor and 1 GB RAM.
One difference is that it has 8 GB internal storage, but supports microSD cards.
It also has a smaller 1650 mAh battery.
So, two new smartphones from Nokia. And it will be really interesting to see how
they do.
I am personally looking forward to trying out the Lumia 920 when it comes out,
So stay tuned for that review.
Let me know your thoughts on these phones in the comments below.
I will see you in the next video. Bye.
