Hey guys for Complex News, I'm Natasha Martinez.
Jay-Z was smart when he allowed his wife Beyonce to air their dirty laundry for the world to
hear in 'LEMONADE'. Apart from being couple's therapy, the album was a massive success for
Beyonce's music career and according to the New York Times, a massive success for Jay
Z and Beyonce's business.
Tidal, which has previously struggled with competing against other top streaming services
like Spotify and Apple Music, earned 1.2 million new subscribers since Beyonce dropped her
sixth number one album. This follows the success of the exclusive release of Kanye West's 'The
Life Of Pablo' which doubled their subscribers
In a report from The New York Times,'LEMONADE' resulted in 306 million global streams for
songs from the album, with 229 million coming from the United States. Updated results on
the official number of subscribers Tidal has not been released yet but back in March the
ranking was at 3 million subscribers. This goes against Spotify's 30 million and Apple
Music's 13 million.
Moral of the story, Tidal has now learned that when you lock down exclusive deals with
some of the most anticipated albums of the year, you get what you want.
