Something I’d like to know about God is how he dispenses justice, essentially the question of theodicy. Also, I’d really be interested in hearing, in knowing how he thinks and how he evaluates what goes on in this world.
If I didn’t like the answer, I’d try to get in line with it. But I’m sure I’d have some dissonance about it.
If I had all the Jews in the world right here, right now, I would say, “We have so many opinions, but it’s great to see all of you. Thanks for coming out. Let’s sing kumbaya. And then go our separate ways.” I really don’t know. It’s tough because there’s no one clear direction that we could all go in. And as much as I would love for us to … whether it’s go to Israel, whether it’s to keep Shabbat, whether it’s to keep kosher, whether to believe in God, or do justice, I think that it would be simply impossible. I think everybody would want to do their own thing. There would be too many disagreements. Trust me. You have any number of Jews, you have any number of opinions. To have millions of Jews in one place, no consensus could be sought. I would just say, “It’s great seeing you.” I would say an amazing blessing on seeing them. But I’m not [unintelligible].
