First time in New York.
I'm just still in disbelief that I'm in New York City.
WOMAN 1: Miami's all about the experience
and out of classroom experiences
and I just feel so unbelievably blessed.
An amazing opportunity for all of us within the music department.
I mean, it's New York. This is the best place to do it.
I am a member of the Chamber Singers.
Miami University, Men's Glee Club.
Collegiate Chorale.
I'm part of the Wind Ensemble, here at Miami.
WOMAN 2: I've been told since the age of three,
the only way to get to Carnegie Hall
is if you practice, practice, practice.
Cannot believe we're singing at Carnegie Hall.
So excited for tomorrow.
It's Carnegie Hall.
It's gonna be like any other performance, but times a million.
A very life-altering thing.
One of the greatest experiences I've ever gotten to do as a musician.
A lot of people dream about this for years and years
and we're doing it at such a young age.
The love and honor is flowing out of me. I'm so excited.
DR. JAMES LENTINI: If you're gonna try and do something special,
go for the best.
DR. STEPHEN LYTLE: There's very few places in the world
the name of a place means more than a name of the place.
One of the most beautiful and acoustically sound halls.
MAN 1: Well, it's the most famous hall in America
and arguably the most famous hall in the world.
DR. RICARDO AVERBACH: Music can suspend time.
MAN 1: My personal goal as a musician
is to perform every day on my trumpet.
LYTLE: There's no more electricity in the room
than the moment just before a piece starts.
(CHOIR SINGING)
(CHOIR SINGING)
I want music to be regarded as an art.
And I want the students to feel like artists.
(ORCHESTRA PLAYING)
And I hope, uh, we can do something that is not only exciting
but also that brings a deep meaning to our lives.
MAN 2: When the orchestra took the stage,
I was just thinking of playing well and enjoying the experience
because it might be my only time playing at Carnegie Hall.
The human voice that is the direct connection
that we all gravitate towards.
And to be able to hear the sound on stage
is something you can only hear in Carnegie Hall.
(OPERATIC SINGING)
LENTINI: The sound in Carnegie Hall
made it a completely different experience.
Hearing this wash of sound and blend was just beautiful.
So, in a way, it's almost a third person experience.
You know, yes, I wrote it, I know every note,
I knew every move that was gonna happen.
But it was just kind of the way to sit back and listen to it
and kind of take wonder at the sound in that hall.
(OPERATIC SINGING)
This moment will be registered
in the lives of all of us who participated in this experience, forever.
I don't think we'll ever forget this experience.
The whole Carnegie Hall experience
has had a tremendous effect on the students.
It was such a positive outcome.
The preparation, the performance.
It's really inspired us to do more.
There's three verses that he chose in the alma mater.
And each one of them was very unique.
Each one of them was driving to the next one.
And that's what was happening at that point in the work.
You know, we were living in the moment.
We know that in 10 seconds or 12 seconds,
that, you know, the house was gonna come down.
(SINGING CONTINUES)
(MUSIC ENDS)
