Hello everyone, this is Max and welcome for this Dota 2’s character introduction video.
Today we’re gonna talk about Azwraith, aka Phantom Lancer.
Phantom Lancer is an agility carry disturbing teamfights by creating illusions all the time.
He has a good escape and a slow that makes him useful from the beginning of the game.
He will later became a monster on the battlefield,
making good use of his illusions to decimate his enemies and destroy buildings quickly.
Be careful though, he is vulnerable if facing enemies having AoE damage
who will reduce his army of illusions to ashes.
Phantom Lancer’s first skill is Spirit Lance which gives him the ability to throw his spear on an enemy unit.
The target will be slowed up to 40% and will take up to 250 damage.
Plus, an illusion of Phantom Lancer will be created when the lance will reach the target.
It will deal 25% of the Phantom Lancer’s damage, will take 400% damage and will disappear after 3 seconds.
This skill is really useful to chase thanks to its slow and can be used as a finish move thanks to its good damage.
Doppelwalk is Azwraith’s second spell. It’s a really good escape because it makes you invisible for 8 seconds.
This spell is a good way to confuse the enemies chasing you, since when you activate it,
you will create an illusion of yourself which will continue its movement to cover your fleeing.
Plus, this skill gives you a bonus movespeed of 15% during the whole invisibility duration.
This spell makes you almost impossible to gank as long as the opponent team has nothing to counter you.
His third spell, Juxtapose, is a passive ability that makes Phantom Lancer an army all by himself.
This spell gives you a 12% chance to create an illusion of yourself when you attack.
You will be able to create up to 8 illusions that will deal 25% of your damage, will take 450% damage
and will last 20 seconds each.
This skill makes you a effective pusher and is a good way to multiply your dps by 3 if you have 8 illusions.
Azwraith’s ultimate, Phantom Edge, is also a passive ability boosting his illusions.
It gives 20% of magic resist, 6% more chance to create illusions with Juxtapose
and more importantly, it gives 7% chance to your illusions to create copies of themselves.
To make it simple, your illusions can create illusions which can create illusions, which can create illusions,
which can... well I think you got it... and this has no limit.
This ultimate will give you the possibility to push and farm, even if you are at another spot on the map.
Your illusions will make the job for you.
Be aware that illusions created by the runes and Manta Style will also be able to create their own illusions.
Let’s talk about the skill order now !
The skills you will take will depend of the enemies you are facing on the lane.
If the lane is dangerous from level 1, take a level of Doppelwalk to avoid the danger,
otherwise, take your Spirit Lance
which will be a good way to attempt to kill your enemies thanks to its sow if you have an opportunity.
Upgrade your Spirit Lance then your Doppelwalk to max level.
Take a level of Juxtapose once level 9 then two levels of your Ultimate.
Upgrade Juxtapose to max level and take your last Ultimate point at level 16.
Phantom Lancer is a carry, which means his power depends a lot from his stuff.
Let’s see what he needs to be effective ;) !
As a starter, take 3 Iron Branches, a set of Tangos and a Healing Salve.
If you have trouble farming, you can take a Quelling Blade,
and you can also take a Stout Shield which will give you more resistance during the early game.
Buy your Boots of Speed first and try to upgrade those into Power Treads as soon as you can.
Also upgrade your Branches into a Magic Wand.
Phantom Lancer being a fragile carry, even with his escape, Vanguard is a good option for him.
If you have a really good farm, Radiance is a good choice on him too
since it will be even easier to farm with your illusions without your presence.
After the Radiance or if your farm isn’t that good, build a Diffusal Blade.
The mana burn given by this item also works on your illusions
which will make you a manasucker more powerful than Anti-Mage himself.
Then, you have many choices.
You can opt for a Manta Style which will be a good way to create even more illusions plus having some stats.
You can also build a Butterfly, very good item on all agility carries,
and your illusions will benefit from the dodge given by this item.
Heart of Tarrasque is also a good idea to make you and your images even tankier.
Assault Cuirass will give you a good armor bonus, attack speed and a lower armor aura for your enemies,
really useful to push even faster !
Also don’t forget to upgrade your Diffusal Blade to its second level when you have no more charge
or if you have a lot of gold.
There it is, it’s over for Phantom Lancer !
